Is Alaska Airlines DOOMED TO FAIL? 737 ECONOMY Review

I've been a big fan of Alaska Airlines. But now they've joined Oneworld. You'd think that would be a good thing. But I'm very worried, as the recent changes have not been good. What's it like to fly on Alaska after Oneworld? Let's find out on this trip from Chicago to Seattle.
This ticket was part of a larger award ticket for 55,000 Alaska miles to New Zealand in Business class with a stopover in Fiji.

I’m sitting here in the Sala VIP in Barcelona now, so apologies on delayed responses. What are your thoughts on Alaska? Will they remain unique and better now that they’ve joined oneworld?

me and my family love alaska air and we always fly them if we can. also we recently went to dubai and taking qatar we got almost the same amount of miles as if alaska did that flight. Plus, it warms my heart seeing them succeed and have full flights.

I like Alaskas First Class, tbh, I think it’s worth about $100-$200 more than the other carriers because I think the service is a bit better. Blame Delta though for their recent lounge policy changes because I’m 1000% confident when I say this, the only reason why Alaska did restrict their lounge access is because of what Delta has done to get access to their lounges in their hub in Seattle and Los Angeles.

Nice trip report. However, at 6:50, flew over BFI not PAE. PAE in Everett is a bit further north.

Alaska has been half-assing their 737 retrofits. They just re-upholstered their first class seats instead of putting in the new MAX first class. And their retrofitted 737s retain the same small bins for non-BSI 737s. Delta has also been half-assing their A330CEO and 767-300 retrofits by not putting the new seats found in their A330NEOs and 767-400s. I hope United doesn't repeat what Alaska and Delta have been doing

AS is the only OW airline I've flown in Y where I got an extra 'something' (snack) because of OW (QF) status. To be fair though, the only other OW airline I've flown Y while having status is AA, and you get nada on the plane - not even free MCE. AS flight was 20% load so YMMV.

Started flying Alaska back in the early 80’s. Was a MVP for 20 years and Gold for 5 years. In the very early days Alaska was way above the rest with service and food. Unfortunately as they grew, they had to cut back like everyone else to be competitive.

In 5 years, they'll be an equivalent of $pirit. Alaskan just dumped me off in OKC because of weather with nothing more than a "Sorry, your flight is canceled, you're AT your destination, good luck re-booking because we aren't handling that for you." Everyone is sorry, but nobody is willing to do ANYTHING to get you rebooked and on your way. Living in the PNW, Alaskan used to be my favorite airline, but now it's just trash. That loyalty card is about to be paid off and put away forever. They just aren't worth the lost amenities and dismal, indifferent "customer service" anymore.

The free drinks on Horizon flights was only on planes without first class (the Q400s and CRJs/Fokkers beforehand). Embraers never had free alcohol.

When all airline stocks tanked during covid, I thought it was best to invest in one. I compared to all USA airlines with debt to liquid assets and performance. Alaska was far ahead of any domestic carrier in reference to risk. Only 1k invested with a 2k profit in 20 months. They have previously been financially responsible. If they have changed top leadership recently, I would be very concerned. I worked for PanAm in the 80's and got terminated in 91 because of bad unions and top leadership. I still think Alaska is the premier carrier for the US though I haven't flown them in 2 years.

I loved Alaska when they were still part of skyteam and seemed a great partner at the time with delta. However, since they’ve joined oneworld I’ve noticed a decline in there product. Much that in par with AA. Which is disappointing as AA sucks to put it lightly.

@@encryptededdy yes my mistake Alaska was only a close airline partner with Delta and a few other airlines before joining oneworld alliance.

i flew Alaska once in 2022. Not again if I can help it. Seats belonged in a Greyhound bus. Crew was terrible, jerks really. I flew premium economy, not that that matters. Oh yeah the female flight attendant while giving the safety briefing was sucking something off her teeth. I'm not a prude by any means but what a joke. I flew Hawaiian a few years ago and what a huge difference. I flew economy but first class attendants, seats, etc. Oh well I'll try another airline next time. If Hawaiian is flying anywhere I go, no brainer

Try Alaska again. Every airline has an off day, with a non-compatible crew. People love Delta. I absolutely hate it and have nothing but bad experiences. 🤷‍♂
