I myself frequently carry revolvers along with necessary reloads. One must keep in mind that training is just as important as your ammunition. Out on the street an individual is far more likely to run into a hoodlum who has little training or experience with his weapon and just dumps his magazine. Those guys need a lot of ammunitions with just the hope that they might hit someone. That's why there are so many shootings but few people getting killed in comparison. In my area shootings are frequent while deaths are few. Getting wounded is is a fair probability. If you are trained and familiar with your weapon you are far superior to the punk out there who is mentally acting out what he sees at the movies. Don't take anything for granted though. Do whatever you think it's going to take to come out on top.

Maggie's enthusiasm is amazing. Never can watch these great vids without a smile!
I live in a small town now, moved from a major city and I have always carried outside my home. I used to always carry a semi auto with at least 15 rounds. Now I often carry a small 357 revolver. I can also carry my 1911 or high power without worrying about capacity.
I'm 70 years old and have almost always carried a 1911 but now I have a Charter Arms stainless steel .357 revolver. Why? Less weight but it has always been about bullet placement with my training. The grip on the revolver was and is fantastic. Just the right, for me, soft but solid firmness. 👌
It is always refreshing to see and have Maggie on the channel. Good topic Mark. Thank you the information.
Carried my Taurus 357 snub for 20 yrs as an over night grocery stocker, front of pants, in the waist. never got in the way, never had to use, retired now. I carry different firearms at different times. My Taurus is in the safe! Love your vids. Merry Christmas!
I like both revolvers and semi-automatics. Each requires a slightly different skill set (e.g., rapid reloading with the revolver vs. clearing jams etc. with a semi-automatic). Having shot both for 40+ years, I recently decided and bought a Colt King Cobra for carry. (P.S., I think you forgot to mention that with a Colt you pull back on the cylinder latch).

@@k_enn Thanks Ken for your reply, I love Colts.
I love revolvers. I had an instructor once tell me his way of practicing a revolver reload. At his range though. Have your reload in your pocket or wherever you carry the speedloader. Shoot your 5 or 6 rounds at about 5 to 7 yards. Then without looking at your revolver { he would close his eyes on his range] empty the spent casings, acquire your reload, load them and then shoot those rounds. He said this was a fairly realistic situation in a defensive shooting because you never want to lose sight of your opponent. Of course I brought up the "peripheral vision" situation, and he thought that was not something you can truly depend on in a real defensive scenario. We had lots of discussions about that.
Another awesome and informative video. Thanks so much Guys!!!
I think the 32 caliber is the ideal center fire revolver for first time shooters. The 32HR Magnum is equal to a 38 with half of the recoil.

From a would be first time gun owner......thanks for a helpful and entertaining video. As one with mild nerve damage in my non-shooting hand, plus no firearm experience ...it seems more and more like a revolver is the better option vs a semi-automatic. As a civilian, capacity isn't a huge issue from a purely carry perspective. Home defense is another debate. I understand that actually no shots fired/merely showing the bad guy "Hey, I've got a gun" does the deterrent trick 90%+ of the time, and 2 shots on average when shots are required. My job is to stop the attack, and/or get away, not make an arrest.
@cjr4286
Жыл бұрын
What are your reasons for choosing a revolver over a semi-automatic due to nerve damage? In my experience, little snub-nosed revolvers have a much heavier trigger pull and will make your hand turn red if you're shooting anything more powerful than .38 wadcutters. I carry a revolver, but I would consider it to be a weapon for more experienced shooters because of those reasons.
@MarcPagan

@@cjr4286 My left hand is weak, has muscle loss, and might get worse. Racking is my concern, and also more training to use and maintain a semi. .38 special is the caliber I've settled on. I've shot a friend's 9mm. It's hard to rack the slide for me, and too much recoil, even in a full sized beautiful Beretta 92. So in a compact/carry size, a 9mm is an absolute no go. I do understand that .380 is an option, but again, racking, more training and maintenance. Thank u very much for your comments/suggestions.

357mag and 38spc are absolutely fine for both concealed carry and home defense. I read that you have chosen 38spc.....I advise you purchase a 357mag revolver because you can still shoot 38spc. @@christopherbishop4927 9mm is different enough that it won't chamber in a 357 Magnum. 38 S&W Special is the same as 38 Special. 38 S&W is not; it's too wide to chamber in a 357. When I was originally trained in 1981, it was all revolvers, all the time. I have no problem with simi-autos. but my default go-to is always going to be a revolver. I remember when the wonder 9's started getting popular. Their cool. Their fun. But I cut my teeth on 357 revolvers. And they just make my happy.
Mark and Maggie! Gun stores are generally happy and fun places to be.
One of the most interesting things about a revolver is that it is actually a lot easier to conceal a snubbie revolver than an autoloader. How can this be, you ask, the revolver is clearly thicker? BUT, this is only true for the cylinder, the other parts are more slender than the autoloader, and the revolver is lumpy, not a flat gun-shapped object. Small lumps are not recognizable as a gun. Try it you will be amazed. The autoloader will print more and more recognizably than a revolver every time. Even the grip is more rounded and prints less.
Good afternoon from Syracuse NY everyone thank you for sharing your details and information about guns

Depends on the situations you may encounter. In larger cities, the ghetto thugs tend to run in packs of 2,3, or more. If you drop one, the rest MAY scatter, or they may not. And, unless your bullet placement is spot one, it may take several rounds to terminate the threat.

My EDC is a Ruger SP101 2" .357mag. Small, comfortable, and packs a serious wallop! Not to mention dead on with almost zero bullet drop to 50 yards. I have other higher capacity options that are just as easily and comfortable, but a hollow point silver tip 135gr from a 357 is much more effective.
I have many semis - including my favorite, a 1911, but I thoroughly enjoy my wheelguns. My current fave is a 2-inch snubby, which makes a nice concealed carry (and in a defensive situation, a snubby should fit the bill in close quarters).

Charter Arms .44 won't hold up to high round counts. Got one for my wife and everyday we were shooting the heck out of mice in a oat haystack when feeding horses in the evenings. They will break after enough rounds. Guaranteed.
We are in our (mumble, mumble) 70’s. My wife has a stainless Ruger SP101 in .357 with Crimson Trace grips. What an awesome combination for seasoned citizens with less than perfect eyesight. My big complaint about red laser is in bright sunlight, it disappears.
I am a senior and first gun was S&W Easy 9mm. Last purchase was a S&W 986 with 6" barrel. Trigger pull is 11 pounds, but there is double action. Also in the mix is a 38 spl J frame 5 shot. Much easier SA pull and DA is very light. After studying all, there is plenty to go wrong like keeping it in time and aligned. But that 6" barrel sure is easy to aim.
@garrettswoodworx1873
Жыл бұрын
Don't abuse it by snapping the cylinder back in place with a flip of the wrist and neither timing nor alignment will ever be an issue for you. That L frame shouldn't have even a slight timing issue for at least 20K rounds, probably a lot more than that!
another issue facing some of us seniors - is cost. it seems revolvers are more expensive on average until you start getting into the full-size semi-autos.
I finally bought my first revolver back in January. It is a 66-8 combat model smith and wesson 357. I have always wanted a revolver for like 25 years. I even asked a gun store owner his opinion. He asked, will I be shooting every weekend or once in a while. I said, once in a while. He said, get a Taurus. But if I was going to shoot every weekend. Get a smith. I was at a gun show. They gave me a price that I can not refuse. Also, I was at a range. A guy asked me. If I was willing to sale. I told him, no. Then, he tried to trade. I still told him, no.
Regarding 6:14, to reload a revolver quickly such as during an emergency, then use a speed loader to load all of the cartridges simultaneously. Otherwise the slow method is to load each cartridge individually one at a time. Regarding 6:26, a heavier revolver such as made of solid steel or stainless steel with rubber handle grips can better absorb the recoil shock from shooting powerful ammunition such as 357 Magnum. On the other hand, light weight alloy revolvers do not absorb recoil shock to the extent that solid steel revolvers are able to absorb.
Very coo! I have a Smith & Wesson model 49 Bodyguard .38 special with a Tyler's grip adapter in my pile. I believe every Pistolero' should have at least 1 S&W J frame revolver.
Awesome video
When the Ruger LCR 38 came out I got one. Trigger was much better than other 38 snubs I've had so I got another LCR then got a 2" LCRX & a 3" LCRX all in 38 special because it's the lightest & I pocket carry. Only 5 shots but one LCR in each jacket pocket when it's not hot outside. Revolvers are about trust. I haven't had a malfunction in thousands of rounds. Same with beginners I've taught. No limp wrist malfunctions. No tap & rack. These aren't range guns but I hit center mass at 25 yards DAO or SA. Not much different in group size with DAO or SA. Big difference was the 3" vs 2". The 3" shot much tighter groups. Longer sight radius. If you can carry it try the 3".
Yes it is 👍😊
Have the Ruger LCR DAO in .38 Special, awesome 5 shot revolver!
I used to carry a snub 357 everyday. I taught my daughters to shoot it and that's all they carry today. I have since retired my snubby and carry a single stack 9mm. But that's more due to my mobility restrictions than anything else. I felt better packing 5 magnums vs 8 +P 9mm's.
Aside from the limited capacity and somewhat slower reload, they're ok. I carried a Smith 649 in 357 magnum as a third back up in my winter duty parka pocket in extremely cold weather. If something went south on a vehicle stop, approaching a subject, or a door, my hands could be in my pockets, ready to take action with out even removing my weapon from the pocket. Would gave been rough on the parka, but I could always get a new one. This would be far faster than drawing my duty weapon or digging my other backup out from it's hiding place. Never had to use either backup, but it was quite comforting.
Entertaining, and yes.
GP-100 6" and 629 Clasic Hunter 5 3/4 " ... fun to shoot
The black Taurus already has the laser grip....cool😎

I choose revolvers for what ever I may find my mission is to stop a threat, and scratch gravel out of there.
REVOLVER IS THE BEST, PERIOD !
Even though I have far more powerful handguns, my usual EDC is a Taurus 85 in .38 Special. I prefer it because if a round misfires, I can just move on to the next round without a hassle.
I love Maggie and her hat
Of course it is! All depends on the person and their circumstances.
So many great snub revolvers out there for self-defense EDC... Smith & Wesson... Ruger... Charter arms... Taurus.. especially Taurus wonderful 856 UL... It's a six shot snub that's no bigger.. then most five shots snubs...the UL ultra lite model. Is only 16 oz!! We live at a time where we're so lucky that technology has given us some superb five and six shot wheel guns
There are also a number of revolvers that are front end weighted to reduce recoil and muzzle flip e.g. Ruger GP-100 and Colt Python. These can make even more powerful rounds like .357 Mag easier to handle for most shooters

My friend had a SP that kinda did that. It wasn't the guns fault it was ammo. Unfortunately he loaded the ammo. Only thing we could figure is the progressive loader he had missed a powder charge. It spit the bullet just into the forcing cone. Luckily we are Tool and Die makers so we got it out.
I qualified for my ccw with a Ruger sp101 2 1/2" barrel. The instructor assumed everyone had semi autos, I told him I didn't have a semi auto, and he asked well what are you gonna carry? I said a revolver, and he said please tell me it's not your great granddads army revolver, I said no Sir it's a modern weapon. Instructor said while we were on the firing line and I see you doin something that I may be able you with, I'll just tap you on the shoulder and you can just set it down...well first cylinder, he taps me on the shoulder, I opened the cylinder set it down and he asks me what in the world are you shooting? I said 357 magnum, he says why? He looks around me at the target and said can you put 45 more rounds center mass? He told ok then !!!

A hit with a 38/357 is always better than 13 misses with a 9

We aren't small women though. I'm carrying an aluminum alloy 44 mag right now with low power 44 mag ammo. I have zero issue putting them on target inside 15 yards and every torso hit is deadly.
I prefer to carry two 1860's cartridge conversion 45 L 5& 1/2 inch barrel's.
I’ve carried a revolver for 34 years every day. My latest is the Ruger LCR 357. 17 ounces loaded, and plenty of stopping power. 98% of all self defense shooting happen with two shots or less lethality. Unless you’re a cop, then you need 37 shots in your mag😉
