    Oh MAN! Don't let Sue see that thing. She's been wanting me to get her some chickens again. At one time I had to tend to , and butcher, about 60 chickens for her here on our fabulous "homestead." I really love your set-up, but I have learned one thing about chickens. If you take one chicken and add 1 lb of chicken feed and water, you will get TEN POUNDS of chicken poop. Lol. The garden will love it, but get a BIG shovel. Great set-up you have there and good job sharing it! I agree that just building your own would be cheaper, but I know you will enjoy all those fresh eggs. Will you be cooking any of your birds? We love fried chicken. Good luck my friend!

    Man we love the chickens for sure. I have never butchered one but with the price of everything including chicken may have to learn. I hear you on the poop. Between them and the rabbits we have plenty of that flowing around here. lol Get Sue some chicks. lol Yeah I plan on building a new coop inside the current run and building out the run at some point. These first ones are just egg layers for us. I would look at more dual purpose for meat birds should we go that route. Not sure Jessica will let me or if I can even do it. lol I am weak. The Polish want have enough worth eating. lol I am looking at Barred Rocks as well for dual purpose.

    Would like to see a true prefab vs custom video meaning you actually build a custom coop of similar size and then compare time, money, quality, aesthetics and value against each other instead of just your opinion. Thanks for posting.

    Working on building mine now. From what I can tell you so far the cost is a little cheaper and the quality is much better overall. Of corse that to is partial cause with building my own I am able to get it exactly how I want it. I will say though overall the prefab is a very nice coop and would tell anyone to get it that does not want to build there own. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

    Custom is the way to go(for us)! You can make it the size you would like etc.. we turned a shed into ours however in the past hoop coops worked well. We also have a chicken tractor that we can move around.. Lots of options! 😆 The one you guys bought will allow you to find out what you want..that one just may be it! 🤔 Enjoyed the video.. Blessings!

    Man I agree 100%. We are wanting to go to around 50 chickens so we for sure will need a bigger setup. I have been peeking around at sheds as well then just build out the inside to how you want it. I am planning to build a chicken tractor as well. We went to buy our first 4 chicks yesterday and left with 8. So we will be expanding. lol I may ping you at some point for some pointers since you are already where we hope to get too.

    @@SmallSpaceLiving great! Check out fisherbarns.com there is some good insight on the website.. They talk about the right size barn for the amount of chickens and what you need for the inside etc.. If Jessica is anything like my wife check out the chicken swing also! 😂Happy Friday! Blessings!

    I would say in a year or so I will sell you this one if you just want a small one. I will make you a good deal on it. lol We will be upgrading to something bigger as we plan to end up with around 50 chickens at some point. This one is super easy to put together for sure. If you have a trailer you can have on that is done already. lol

    Thanks for the coop tour. I'm still watching but didn't want to forget. Do you think maybe adding another hinge to the door will help that "drop" issue? Or maybe better hinges. They may not be strong enough for the weight and an extra might be the fix ? But like I said I'm not a builder , just someone who knows how to ghetto rig 🤣😂

  • @SmallSpaceLiving

    @SmallSpaceLiving

    Thank you for watching. We have looked at that on adding another hinge. May test it out. We plan to build a new coop at some point as well bigger so we can get more chicken. I am really just learning how to build myself. It's a process. The more I do it the better I find I can do it. It's taken a long time though. lol

    Well I’m kinda glad you said you didn’t think it was probably worth $600. I was thinking that. Now I’m curious how much to build your own. Ever think to check like market place or something for one? If not, and you ever need another, might consider that. I mean it is a nice looking coup. If it was a smidge bigger, I could live in it 😂🤣.

  • @SmallSpaceLiving

    @SmallSpaceLiving

    Nope I think I could build a much bigger setup on my own for that price. I could get by I think with around $400 or so for something abut twice the size of what this is. My next one I plan to buy some sort of storage building and add on to that for more space for the chicks. I have started searching around for a replacement down the road already. lol We are now planning to grow to around 50 chickens overall so we will for sure need more room. Once we stop using this one I will send it to you so you can move in. lol Overall it's a very nice coop just not worth the $600. We are learning as we go and lesson learned on this one.

    Hey Nikki, thanks for watching. Yeah it's super busy but worth it. With the way things are going we are happy to be setup how we are. You are the 2nd person in South FL saying they are looking for land in North FL I know of. Must be something in the water. lol We have a total of 5 acres but really about 3.5 that is workable. The rest is thick woods which we like. I agree with your thoughts on buying which is what we did. We hope to build something bigger and better next time.

    Thanks for the comment. I agree. We are actually in the process of building our on now. We are expanding our flock so needed more room. It will end of costing me a bit more than this prefab but it’s massive and will be better quality. Our roosting bars are actually just above the nesting boxes but not by much though. The new coop will be much better in this area as well. We just ordered 30 more hens so this little thing want work. Lol
