That depends if it was minted pre '82 which would be the ratio of 95% copper & 5% zinc if after '82 its flipped 95% zinc & only 5% copper.

I was thinking steel pennies. Those barely exist and can bring $500,000. That being said he's absolutely right. Lots of copper in pre 82. Way more in the wheaties

I'm Canada they stopped making copper pennies and after awhile they got rid of them permanently they round every 5 cents now

Scrap copper from whatever is just like Gold. Once you melt it. It cannot be traced to original item such as a A/C Coil or copper cable etc. So the law has to see you putting the coins or stolen copper item in a smelter before they completely melt.Same with any type of Gold jewelry or coins etc.
