​@@kieselzusammen I don't recall anything approaching actual romance in the actual show; I think that person is thinking of the Tomino quote where he suggests that female fans, who tuned in because of the handsome male characters like Char, played a large part in the early survival of the series (iirc ratings were poor in its original airing, and it was via a later rebroadcast and the compilation movies when it grew a large enough fandom to get Zeta made). It's entirely possible that BL shows up in fan works like it does with Star Trek, though.
