Irvine 61 MkII A Look Inside

Ғылым және технология

An unexpected purchase from a friend for a great price! Now since making this video I have learned a bit more about this engine. The thread I started on RCGroups is here, where I got most of my new information. It seems that this engine is a true Made in England from the information in the thread,

Thanks for your interesting postings!. It probably ran more than one or two... Exaust shows coal? Then probably more runs. Not to worry about... Piston is tainted and little deposits. Still difficult to state. When the fuel has castor content say 5% it already shows quickly like Klotz does. I still run on old stock Fuchs Airosave (German stuff)... and that does not depostit any coal. It keeps the engine brand spanking clean. I noticed it on my OS 46 AX v.1... and with this oil (not made anymore) hardly deposits in the Hatori... and the engine does not rust on the crank. When finished the last drops of oil... I will try the oil of Weston UK. Read good things about it. Generally I clean off all surface rust with a Dremel tool and brass brush. It takes away the rust, but does not damage the steel tolerances, nor leaves grooves. But work with great care. It leaves a bit of a brass gloss over the metal... even more rust proofing the steel for a while. Every one and a half year or so, I take the 'in-flight' engines apart to check their state... More often check on bearings... metal flakes can ruin compression... better change early than to late.

This engine was mostly made in England. The castings were made in Taiwan but machined in England. Hence the lack of Made in England on the case. OS has never owned Irvine. It is now owned by Ripmax but engines are no longer made. Some spare parts are though. Some of the last red engines were sub contracted to OS to make. They used many modified OS components.

I have a Irvine 61 RC { black carb }as in the above picture, had it about 15 or more years, still boxed, never had the carb or silencer attached and never mounted in a model, only had a few drops of light oil put in

I'm a new collector. Just starting. I have three Fox 60's. How do they compare with other 60's? I'm assuming they are entry level quality wise.

Fox made so many different types of engines, I would need to know WHICH Fox 60 you are talking about. But, I am also NOT a Fox engine guy or expert. I do not believe that Duke Fox would ever agree with your words of any Fox being an entry level engine. That was not his way of making things like OS did with the FP series. When you say "how do they compare with other 60's" What exactly do you mean? Weight, power, longevity, torque? I mean that is a very open and subjective question. One I will almost NEVER entertain because I don't/didn't do those type of comparisons, nor did I ever do 'reviews'. What my videos show is how things operate on that day, time, and conditions. The words I state in my videos are my opinion, but are also from my direct experience unless otherwise stated. If you want comparisons, you will have to do them yourself under your specific needs and conditions.

The secret is out, Irvines run like they are made by Rolls Royce

Well I would say they run well but that classification is a bit much. Then the OS 61 FSR is made by NASA! LOL

I am looking for help to ID an irvine engine with limited pictures due to it being in a cowl and the owner not being able to access the numbers on it. Is there a way you could help me with that if I sent you the pics via e mail ?

Trade my Irvine for an POS MDS engine? Not likely, but thank you for the offer.

POS MDS I concur. Thought maybe you can put the POS MDS against your collection and see what place it comes in and maybe it can change your bias negative thoughts towards them. We all have our own thoughts of POS engines, mine are Magnums. They suck balls, but someone out there would say different. I have had good luck with the POS MDS in the past and I'm sure some of your viewers can say good things about them, Capt. Blas/Capt. Robert? Let me know if you would even consider putting my POS MDS up to your 60 comparison. I will pay for shipping there and back. Have a good day my friend. Keep the video's coming, I enjoy them a lot. And No I wasn't thinking of trading the POS MDS for your Irvine. Irvines's are awesome engines. Back in 1982 when I was a young buck and built my very first RC Airplane Kit, Great Planes TR40 with symmetrical wings designed by Bridi. I bought a new Irvine .40 for it, still have it and still running Great little engine.

Well I did not mean to upset you, but your first message very clearly made it sound like you wanted to trade my Irvine for your MDS. If I misunderstood, I apologize. And for the record I have owned about 6 MDS engines in the past so I have based my opinion on very real experience. That was long before I had this channel. Now Robert and Blaz can think what they want about MDS engines, I really do not care. My experience with them have been less than acceptable. I would not pay a plug nickel for one of them. Horrible day at work.... My apologies.
