IRRI webinar highlights global rice trade insights amidst market disruptions

Global rice research and market experts from Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Africa came together in an IRRI-hosted webinar today to offer country, government, and scientific perspectives on the effect of the recent India non-basmati rice export ban on the global rice market. The panelists explored strategies to help rice value chain actors navigate the challenges of the restriction and other possible market disruptions that could affect rice importing and exporting countries. The IRRI Global Rice Model was used to investigate the potential impact on international and domestic rice markets of the recent restriction while the other featured panelists drew from their experiences in government to government negotiations, production strategies, private sector involvement, and regional food security & economic cooperation.     🌾🇧🇩🌾Hi, I am speaking from Bangladesh. A new method of paddy production, I have discovered in 2023. With my new system, I can produce rice 15 tons of hybrid and non-hybrid rice in per hectare. But Bangladesh government rice scientists are not doing any research on my new technique of rice production and are not giving any approval for it. But thousands of thousans Rice farmers in Bangladesh are benefiting by cultivating paddy according to my new system of rice production. I am interested in working with you to increase rice production all over the world.
