Iron X Review: How, When, and Why I use it!

Iron x review... how, when, and why I use it! In this video I break down the largely talked about product, Iron X. This product is extremely popular in the auto detailing world, and for good reason. It definitely does what it says it will do. Iron X is a rust, rail dust, and contamination remover that detailers and car enthusiasts use before or after they clay bar a vehicle in order to pick up any contaminants that may still be on the paint after they have washed the surface dirt off! Follow along, and learn not only how to use this product, but some specific applications that I use it for to help deliver superior results!

Great video! For anyone curious to know how long it last, I got Carpro TriX which is ironX and a bug/tar remover in one. I used almost 3/4 of a regular 16oz bottle to do my 4 door, mid-sized sedan. The nature of the product just requires you to use it liberally so for the cost, just know you'll want to use it only when absolutely necessary (like claying) and may want to purchase in bulk.

In general, clay barring could potrentially scratch the clear coat, so to minimise this, it is recommended that you chemically decontaminate the paint with CarPro’s Iron X and/or Tar X, before clay barring. As you’ve shown in your video here, Iron X chemically reacted to the industrial fallout and got rinsed away with water, but if you hadn’t done that, and clay barred the paint first, the clay bar would have picked up the fallout/contaminants and caused more marring on the paint! That’s definitely not what you want, unless you were going to correct the paint to begin with.

For those who say Iron X is expensive. If you check out the SDS for the other cheaper chemicals you may notice that they will have less of the active ingredient that makes the purple color. Also you can dilute Iron x if you like and make the product go further.

correct iron x says 25-30% while megs ultimate wheel says 1-10%. Sonax says 10-15%. Ironx is roughly $1 per ounce and megs is roughly $0.40 per ounce. Depending on their exact percentages they could be about equal in cost vs chemical percentage. Or Iron X could be the better deal. But not by much. My local Walmart had megs for $8 a bottle for some time which made it a better deal. But its close enough to say they are roughly the same.

Definitely is a good method. In my "personal" opinion I think that a good wash, iron remover and then a rinse less/quick detail with a ay bar after is like the best combination but definitely more pricey to charge unless you have a specific package for it. Because I'm fairly cheap with my details since it's more of a side hustle and hobby business so I charge 10 for the iron remover, 15 for a clay bar and an additional 5 for wax (liquid wax). Haven't had any issues using that combination and highly recommend it guys 👌🏼

By using Optimum No Rinse in the damp microfibre stage you are adding a layer of either wax, or polymer sealant to the surface of the vehicle (depending on which Optimum No Rinse you used) so you don’t have a ‘blank canvas’ on which to add the sealant. I hope you either used a solvent based panel prep?, or a one stage polish type stage? to get the surface prepped for the application of the sealant? 🤔
