IRON REMOVER vs WD40? | HOW TO REMOVE RUST SPOTS ON YOUR CARS PAINT
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Iron Removers are amazing at dissolving embedded contamination on your vehicles paint. I recently had a customer reach out to remove some rust streak on their door and I wanted to test out something I had seen online.... Apparently, people use WD40 to help dissolve the rust build up and remove it on vehicles. In my mind, WD40 is used to break down rust and loosen nuts and bolts so I got the concept. Iron Removers are amazing, but they smell terrible... I put the WD40 up against my favorite Iron Remover: Reactive Rust Remover from Koch Chemie to see how effective it is... ENJOY!!!

Of course!!
It's great seeing this comparison. WD40 has been the off road racers choice for noncoated (Paint or Powder Coated) fabricated parts for years. Design, Fabricate and test raw (using WD40 as rust inhibitor) then when prototype passes it would be chemically stripped for Powder Coat.
Great video Josh, you do an awesome job.
WD40 Does work for minor rust stains but it needs to be left to soak for 15-20 minutes then gently scrubbed don't add fresh solution onto already contaminated it won't make any difference. My personal opinion I'd use WD40 on small flat surfaces where it is easier to remove only.
I Use Wd as a tar remover.. works really well when you have a lot of fresh tar that you need to remove.
I need to get some of that iron remover to test on the my Cybertruck. I see a thread popping up from people saying the cold rolled 30x stainless used on the Cybertruck is corrosion prone due to some rust spots some of the early owners are spotting after rain. But since I follow you and other detailers, I know new cars often has iron contamination. Especially when the vehicles are behind shipped via railroad. The Tesla service advisor gave up the timeline as my truck was completed at the factry in Austin, TX. He said it will be loaded up onto a train to be sent to Riverside. Then transported to San Diego. Would be great to do a decontamination video to show that there is indeed lots of rail dust all over the truck that needs to be taken off after one drives it home from the delivery center. I was gonna use the chemical guys formula I have. But now thinking I need to get the same smelly stuff you have. I agree with you, they all smell anyways... I rather it be effective when I need to use it. Probably someone like yourself need to get a hold of a Cybertruck and give it a once over and educate the masses. So I can have a video to refer to when I see the comments online. :)
The Turtle Wax Rapid Decon has worked really well for me. The Sulfur type odor is still there but is well masked.

Try Adam polish iron removal it smells decent but works well I used it all around my ford Taurus and it made the paint pop out more
That first door has rust coming through the seam. I know u r concerned only with visuals in this video, but that rust needs a penetrating solution applied from inside the door (or through drilled access holes). Wool wax, or Blaster, etc will not dry out and will forever creep into the seam and slowing the rust process. Applying the WD40 from the outside and leaving it to soak in overnight before wiping off excess may help, but prob will not penetrate the entire seam...
Will this stuff work for bad rust spots on cars exterior?- eaten away rust spots?
Could you possibly leave information and a picture and the cost of this product and where I can buy it at in what are the products that you offer. To help take care of your vehicle and make it look beautiful to years?
'May be corrosive to metals", that is written at the instructions on the bottle of Koch Chemie Rrr (I own it). Why is that? I didn't know that text before. So, we use Rrr to remove rust, but it could potentially cause rust? Rust is a kind of corrosion.
Have you tried "Turtle Wax 53759 Hybrid Solutions All Wheel Cleaner & Iron Remover" ? I hear that has low odor.
Can you use iron remover underneath your vehicle to remove rust?
I have a bit ov break dust on my paint work will wd40 get it off u reckon
I saw a review on the new 3D GLW series iron remover and the reviewer said it didn't have that bad a smell. 3D was able to mask it very well.
Thanks as usual! I was looking for some comparisons on YT putting KC RRR against others but didn’t find any. Have you found it to work better than IronX or other iron removers? Or are they pretty similar ?

@@imjoshv Ok thanks man…can’t wait for that. A suggestion if possible…include a portion of your test that involves just rinsing off vs agitation before rinsing off. Hoping I can save time and skip agitation on most washes, and would love to know which product is better for that. Peace
I wonder if that is safe on something like a motorcycle with an exposed engine. Anybody have experience?
Would the spray you recommend, or other similar to it, be good for small rust spots I have on my car's exterior? Or should I use something else?
@imjoshv

Yea as long as they are just surface rust spots it will help dissolve them away. Other than that you can also use a clay bar
I usually just rub on a napalm solution. Then strike a match. It just burns that rust right off.
What is it with the color white and rust specks? I know many will say they are just more noticable on white vehicles, but that's not my experience. My friend has a silver vehicle that hardly gets any rust specks, next to none actually, and yet his white vehicle gets many. I've noticed this over the years with various white vehicles.

Ive definitely seen it on silvers for sure. I think with white (atleast basic white, not the pearls) is that maybe they dont take as many layers to produce compare to a metallic finish and because of that the paint reacts differently??? Just a thought because i agree, its always on white cars. Other colors get it too for sure, but white cars do seem to get it worse
I never use iron remover. I use acid wheel cleaner diluted 15 to 1 . Does the same thing . As far as your video i would spray straight acid on a tooth brush and go at it . Rinse thoroughly after .
I just bought a MDX for my daughter and the door James look like the have some black stains in all of the door jambs is it mold or what can I use to remove it and not damage the rubber gaskets
@C0Y0TE5
18 күн бұрын
If it is mold, 10% bleach/water. It may be the seller used a phosphoric acid-based "Rust Converter" where the door seams were rusting. This will turn the rust into iron phosphate, which is black.
Whats best to remove rust stains as a result of rusted water leaking onto my cars hood without damaging the paints coating and strpping the paint?

I just got some P&S Crystal Wash. it’s also a sprayable decontamination solution. Not sure what it smells like yet… The way it works is; you spray it into wheels with brakebuster over the top after a minute to agitate. Or spray dry onto your paint and let it dry. It forms what. Look like crystals and then you can wash it. Many P&S lovers really like it! Fun fact is they claim it’s an organic and safe acid.

IKR? This man need to slow his speech down just a tad and drop the apparent habit of waving the cans around while repeating what he's already said 3x...
Heh with all these comments i can see Josh doing an iron remover comparison test.
The reason this didn’t work is because it’s like using a rain coat to soak up water. You would put your raincoat on BEFORE you get wet instead of using it to dry yourself off. In the same way, Wd40 helps prevent rust by providing a barrier between your metal and the water. Once it is rusted, wd40 won’t do much to help that in the most effective way.
@imjoshv
9 ай бұрын
That makes sense. I saw it being used this way so i wanted to test that, but what your saying seems correct!!
WD is better because it won't strip off the clear coat like the other one does He did it in a spot where no one cares not on the hood or other painted surface. WD is safer on paint.
After you remove surface rust, what do you do to prevent it from happening again? Is there any product to prohibit/prevent rust like that?
