Tony's anxiety is likely PTSD from the Avengers movie when he brought the nuke through the wormhole and thought he was going to die. That's why it was set off by the kids drawing.

Exactly this. I loved this when it came out. It was my favorite for a long time. This whole movie is such a human moment and humbling for Tony. He honestly needed this struggle.

Side note, I thought the idea of the Mandarin and the fakery of it all was very much speaking to the world we live in. Most terrorists are puppets for someone else.

Exactly, that and the fact that all the supernatural/aliens are real and Tony is a normal human trying to fight them

So Tonys PTSD and anxiety arent entirely resolved at the end of this movie and its one of the little things I love about RDJs portrayal moving forward!! Like anxiety is a bitch that has no cure but can be coped with and Tony's characterization is so much more interesting and real now that its something he has to deal with. It makes him more human than the "playboy billionaire philanthropist" we see in the first 2 movies haha

one of my favourite parts of iron man is peppers development. the first movie starts with her being a bit ditzy and clueless. which makes NO sense for her role in the compeny even before she became CEO. you also see gwenyths acting skills sharpen up so much even between just the first and second. but the last movie is pepper pots being insanely powerful. not only as the CEO, but as a partner and friend. yes she gets the fire powers and stuff but thats not where her power comes from. she gets SO much development and im over here just like dear god FINALLY! pepper DESERVES to be an intelligent and charismatic woman and they give her that.

This movie is how I found out I had anxiety, because I'm from latam so at the time I just assumed I was dying or something, I just sat there head in hands in the theater like "OOOOOOOOHHHHHHH IT HAS A NAMEEE". It's also a mandatory christmas movie for me.

This movie is essentially exploring Tony's PTSD from the Avengers. Tony likes to feel like he's in control so after finding out there are Aliens out there, trying to destroy earth, he starts building all those new suits, he's attempting to find some way to feel safe and protected, which leads to more......incidents down the line.

28:05 I believe the movie explored his anxiousness a lot since it is right after the New York City invasion and he did go through a wormhole, see a whole spaceship blow up and he went in to a kind of craze of "build build, protect" etc.. kind of what he explained to Pepper about how he wants to protect her at the start of the movie.. that's why he had a whole bunch of suits that flew in at the end. at least that was how I interpreted it

Rebecca Hall's character Maya Hansen was supposed to actual main villain but they decided that a female villain won't sell as many toys. (Yes, tell me how though Aldrich Killian toys are selling) That would've given a new type of Iron Man villain (yes Killian was an improvement but still too similar to Justin Hammer) who could've subverted the woman-scorned villain trope with having a woman who was a one night stand feel more slighted in an intellectual level. And Rebecca Hall could've slayed it in the fight scenes with RDJ AND Gwyneth.
