Native American here. And I love this song! I’d happily sing this song live and loud. It doesn’t offend me because it keeps the memory of what happened to our people alive. Lots of people try to suppress it, but songs like this help keep people aware. Great reaction guys!

Can you imagine the feeling of standing on that stage having thousands of people sing your song to you while you perform it for them, louder than you? Gives me chills thinking about it.

Iron Maiden is about as good as it gets. This is probably one of their most popular songs and for good reason. I've always admired their approach to historical events and themes and seeing them for the different perspective. As one who tends to see things very differently than the norm (whatever the hell that is) myself, this approach really clicks with me, you two seem to have that same element. Cheers and much love to all!

"Run to the Hills" is a 36-year old (soon 37-year old) iron-clad *10/10* *classic* equally loved by the fans, respected by the critics, and a HUGE *influence* on countless other metal bands and one of the Holy Grails of Metal for them to quest for by trying to write an equivalent song of their own, BUT after the praise at the start of the reaction, Sori eventually gives this an *8.7* and Vin gives this a *9.3* - WtF??? That is just *objectively* wrong. Subjectively, of course, anyone can give it even a 1/10 if they want to, but they would be laughed at by pretty much everyone. This was the 286th reaction video I've watched from V&S since 5 Oct 2018 (My V&S playlist, which I have shared to many friends out of appreciation of the reactions, currently has 289 videos, but "The Heaviest Matter of the Universe", "Call to Destruction" and "God=Dog" are made of two parts). It was easily the biggest disappointment. Also, the "Alliance Method" of song selection still sucks, as it results in a MASSIVE *imbalance* in both quantity and frequency between the most popular bands and those that *deserve* a bigger audience. How many times has Vin said, "Why did you not suggest this band before, hmm?", *hmm?* People *did* BUT the Alliance Method overrode those suggestions. Except maybe for the "Septicflesh Guy" and even that took AGES... Why don't you try random draws for a while, hmm? OK, I've said my piece, invested my time (I'm a slowww writer), and I have my godfather's funeral to attend to on Saturday, so any replies may go unread.

well said :) I also love what Iron Maiden did with the song Afraid To Shoot strangers. Bruce flawlessly tackled the whole mental conflict of a soldier in a war subject from a neutral point of view, not alot of people can pull that off properly

Growing up with the music of Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, Sabbath (Ozzy, Dio, Gillan, etc.) and many, many bands when new albums were released and concerts were packed was such a blessing. These bands earned it and our generation was right there with them. They came up through the backyard parties and clubs. Living in one room apartments and sometimes in their cars (if they had one). It's such a huge part of your life when you're young....and somehow attracted multiple generations. Their concerts continue to sell out. At the time, I don't know if we thought they would fade out, but I'm thinking we didn't. They are that good.

  • @fatpanda3305

Nah nah nah. When the Wild Wind Blows on En Vivo is far worse than the Studio Version. I'm not entirely certain why, but it just feels more... messy, or... uncoordinated. There are a lot of solos in that song, and the studio version has them all nicely placed and played, while on En Vivo it just kind of feels like all the guitarists are playing whatever they feel like playing at the time.

This is maiden's biggest hit. Even in the US this song was a major hit. The studio version shows Bruce at his finest. He can't really hit the ultra high note in the ascending vocal section towards the end. Awesome, awesome song live as you can see. Everyone sings along for the whole song As far as highlighting the plight of the native americans goes, I think "Black Hills" by Pain of Salvation does it much better. But you simply cannot beat this song as a musical piece. One of the great metal tracks of all time 11/10. As far as the crowd reaction and singing along the only real equals to this are Fear of the Dark (also Iron Maiden) and Blind Guardian-The Bard's Song.

They could peacefully exist in the same land with an agreement of Life between them, or they could have war and Death between them. They chose Life. They looked each other in the eyes with respect and each knew that the other was being honest. The situation between the settlers and the Native people was not that simple. But it was a hopeful moment that showed that giving respect can bring respect back to you.

When I see your reaction to Iron Maiden and their interaction with the crowed, I remember the only time I've seen them live. 2017 in Leeds, UK. Man I wish you could experience it first hand. I was at the first row, two meters from the band, It was like I was in the band! The guys are down to earth guys, they will try to engage you in the show, They look you in the eyes and ask you to sing and clap, and in my case because I could count a little bit, Steve Harris was encouraging me to act as some sort of clap leader! If you can, go and see their current show as it's awesome with life size props and flame throwers and stuff. Up The Irons!!!

I've just subbed because I like the way you break lyrics down, or even use them as a topic for a deeper conversation. Keep doing your thing. Ciao from Italy. Oh btw, I take this chance to give you a suggestion : please do Infinite Dreams (studio version). I believe it will give you tons of stuff to talk about. As far as music is concerned, it is an Iron Maiden song, therefore quality is 100% guaranteed :-)

Dude, when I saw them last year. The mic died half way through the Song, no probably the crowd finished the song for him. I have my tickets for them this August, it the legacy of the Beasts. So it will be the best of the beast. Up the Irons.

Always great when you guys do Iron Maiden reactions, but for the love of God check out Phantom of the Opera (either live at the Rainbow with their first singer, Paul Dianno, or the Ullevi 2005 concert, the crowd at that one was absolutely lit) Everything Maiden is musically (the time changes, the melodies, the killer lead lines) is based on that song.

I saw them perform this song live back in the '80s at least four times. You cheer for the band and at the same time the lyrics had me thinking what a fucked up thing to have happened. It's a story but told by painting a very real atmosphere of one we can't do anything about. It happened and the lyrics do a pretty good job of portraying the characters.

Fun facts: This song was the greatest hit for metal in the year 1982, when "The number of the beast" was released. Kids were going nuts just listening to the chorus back then, and here is why: The chorus progression (rising sixth note, or something to that effect) is inspired by Frank Sinatra's "My way". And it became as popular (for metal). Metallica were just beginning back then, and "Run to the hills" was very important for the forming of the sound for the first album of the band, Kill em all. A fraction of copy of an Iron Maiden vinyl album is visible in metallica's dressing room, in a photograph of the band on the record "Master of Puppets". Metallica loved Iron Maiden!!
