I have tickets for October. Last time I saw them was 2019. Eight of us went as a group, including my husband and four kids. I was the oldest in our group, in my early 59s. The youngest was 10. We all had a blast.

“Water, water, everywhere, And all the boards did shrink; Water, water, everywhere, Nor any drop to drink . . . ” From the “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” by the 19th Century English Poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge in his lengthy 1798 poem, once pondered by all who studied English Literature. So, it is from this poem;-) Up the mighty Irons!!!!

Aaaaahhhh Maiden 🥰 Yes, there are 3 guitar players in Iron Maiden. Adrian Smith left the band in the early early nineties, was replaced by Janick Gers, and the when he came back 10 years later, they decided to keep Janick with them anyways. It's adds even more strength to the guitars harmonies they are known for

Adrian and Dave were basically the original guitarists. Adrian left at the end of the 80s. Janik came in. Bruce, the vocalist, left early 90s. 1999 Bruce and Adrian returned and they decided to keep Janik. Imo a good decision as things just sound better with the 3 amigos 💪. They’re currently touring and I think the US part of the tour will be next year. Their most recent album was 2021, still going strong.

I used to hang out and drink with these guys. We used our rock pub The Ruskin Arms and I must have seen them play at least 30 times before they "made it ". They really were the nicest, humble blokes you could meet. I even played football ⚽️ with Stevie Harris for our local amateur team (Melbourne FC),and believe me he was as good at that as he is on bass. But you know the best thing about Iron Maiden.....they have stayed true rockers, and are still the most humble, nicest guys around. Up the Irons⚒️⚒️⚒️

Love that you did this one. Live maiden shows are quite amazing. Steve Harris’ driving bass lines are a common theme in most of their music. Wonder what Coleridge would think of this. “Water water everywhere” does comes from the original work. Whodathunk early 19th century poetry would work so well with heavy metal? 🤘

Sue Drummer is 70 years young, Nicko McBrain. He and Steve Harris, bassist and founder of Iron Maiden keeps the tone of IM's songs. Longest serving member besides Steve Harris is Dave Murray as guitarist. Adrian Smith came in early 80's. Iron Maiden had another singer named Paul D'anno, but he was fired in early 80's. Bruce Dickinson replaced him. Besides, singing, Bruce licensed and certified airline pilot. He flies band, crew and their equipment in a custom Boeing 747 or 757 airliner nicknamed, "Ed Force One" after Iron Maiden's official mascot, "Eddie". There was another drummer named Clive Burr prior to Nicko, who was let go in 1983 died of health issues in I think, 2013. Adrian and Bruce left the band in the 90's But they returned to Iron Maiden. As others, Iron Maiden kept Smith's replacement, Janick Gers permanently. 3 guitarists shared solos and known by the fans as "Three Amigos". They are currently on tour.

This is a great tune. Rime is one of my faves by Maiden. If you like long metal songs with a story you should check out Iced Earth. Dante's Inferno (this one longer than Rime is) was written in the 14th century about the 9 circles of hell and Iced Earth does a great job telling it.

18:40 I’ve been a metal head for forty years this summer, and Maiden has been my favourite band for all of that time. You’re right about mostly guys. There have always been more female metal heads (including me) than some people think, but the genre definitely tips male. IME, the ratio is even higher at the front. Most metal guys are pretty considerate of the women, ime, but it can get pretty rough at the barricade. I started there at my first metal concert, but I got tired of the guy next to me repeatedly hitting me in the temple with his elbow as he head banged. I don’t think he even realized I was there. I’m in my 50s now, and don’t usually do General Admission (tickets cost too much). But, when I do, I stay back out if the crowd. I like room to thrash around, and don’t like the pit. Subscribed. I’m only one woman, so I won’t balance your demographics much, though.

In classic metal there are two bands on top of all. Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. That’s it. Maiden is a little more consistent but I think they have no rivals. They’ve got two guitarists until 1999 . In 1992 Adrian Smith Left and they replaced him with Janick Gers. Then Adrian came back and they decided to keep all because live they could do some stuff which they were overdubbing in the studio.

The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, one of the best poems ever written. And based on a true story. I believe ?Wordsworth told this story to Coleridge (but he twitched the story a little bit :) Probably the first story which showed compassion for our fellow creatures on Earth in a time when wholescale slaughter was the norm. Just imagine this; once there were >5 million breeding pairs of short-tailed albatross. Within a few years the Japanese reduced them 27 individuals (none were seen for ?40 years and believed extinct for many years). Or the sad tale of the Atlantic grey whale. Once the ocean was filled with them, now zero. (one of the reasons I stopped voting a few years ago; the left don't care about things I care about (like the West sliding into 1984) and the right don't care about our fellow creatures so I can't support either of them) And Maiden. Don't know how they do it. Their energy is still intoxicating. Fan since I was 10. Always a privilege to headbang my brains out everytime they deem us Dutchies worthy for a visit :) The Wolfman is right though. 'Water, water everywhere is indeed Coleridge's poem. They sing it word for word :) 'Day after day, day after day, We stuck, nor breath nor motion; As idle as a painted ship Upon a painted ocean. Water, water, every where, And all the boards did shrink; Water, water, every where, Nor any drop to drink'
