He wasn't a pilot in 1990. He left the band after Fear of the Dark (1992) to TRAIN to become one. He only became a full pilot around a year before the Somewhere back in Time tour (2008/09)

I'm an aviation enthusiast, I know nothing of metal bands, but the freaking vocalist flying his own jumbo jet around the world for his own tour is the most wicked shit I've ever seen goddamnit 🤣

Imaging being a young 19-year-old Steve Harris, sitting is a cold London flat, with a dream to create the biggest, baddest heavy metal band on the planet. @Dom Hard to say if the band would have gone on to where they are today if Bruce hadn't come aboard. That being said, I love the vintage Di'anno tunes. When he wasn't screaming he had a really incredible voice. Love you too, Bruce. :)

This man is absolute legend. What could be more rock'n'roll than actually flying your own jet to the tour.

I don't know how Bruce does it all. Where does he get the energy ? Flying a plane than jumping on stage night after night Running his own company and doing speaking tours. Hats off to him 👍

I read an article in a magazine... (can't remember which one)...but the article talked about some of the British military troops that were coming home on leave, some of the troops were going to have to wait almost a month because of lack of flights. Bruce Dickinson found out & flew many troops home more than once on Ed Force One... EXTREMELY CLASSY, EXTREMELY GENEROUS, EXTREMELY IRON MAIDEN!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.

Bruce is the MAN. He sings, he screams, he flies!!!

It's important for humanity to understand that this aircraft must fly for eternity. I don't care what it takes. This is a piece of pop culture and aviation history that can NEVER go forgotten.

Actually this was the third "Ed Force One", the first two, were for the "SBIT" and "Final Frontier" tours were 757's, but I get your point, this one, being a 747 makes it even bigger and more epic.

Only thing cooler than being the frontman of a great band is being a pilot. Now imagine being both.

I only consider myself to be a lukewarm Iron Maiden fan, but I have nothing but respect for their accomplishments, longevity, and classiness. And to have your frontman piloting the 747 that takes you on a worldwide tour is nothing but epic. Major props to them all!

It is awesome, but it also probably made financial sense to charter it rather buy tickets and for passengers and pay for shipping kit or renting it on location.

Love the comments. Totally agree, it doesn't get much cooler...to be a rock singer in a huge band and a certified pilot of a Boeing 747-400 flying your rock band to all the shows. And also with a supreme sense of humour and humility. Hat tipped.

I once met Paul Dianno backstage after a gig, he was the first singer of Maiden, he was quite good and very friendly. That was in my metaldays, this video remembered me...ahaha ;-).

I saw it parked at YVR as I was departing for Philly. Pretty bad ass.

I have never been so impressed with a band. Including its past members, accountants, the entire organization, and fans. (Watched the documentary on the history of Maiden as well.) So accomplished, and just plain lovely folks. Thanks from the USA!

Bruce and Steve are two of the most amazing guys in rock history. Solid skill, talent and integrity. Plus they are really hard working blokes!

I just discovered Iron Maiden and i am really about to love this band. I listen to Techno and electronic music for more than 30 years, but i always was Open minded for everything else in the world of music. Bruce is such an amazing and very nice man, a fantastic musician, a great singer and also a pilot of this huge airplane. It's a man that gets the biggest respect from me. He is amazing! Germany has two A340-300s, two A319s, one A321, multiple Gulfstream G VI and is going to receive the world's first VIP A350 later this year after the A340 developed a habit of breaking down.

I saw "Ed Force One" Take off and fly over my head quite a few years back, I had no idea what or who Iron Maiden was, but now I do. :)

The day I saw Iron Maiden was one of the best days of my life. Thanks!

wish I had appreciated this band more when I was a kid! Every person in this band is an absolutely amazing musician! I was too young and stupid to realize it back in the 80's! Thank God they're not only still doing it, but still completely on top of their game!

There will never be a band as Iron Maiden. Never in the whole music history.

Total respect for this man-made millions from his band and spent his spare time qualifying as a commercial pilot an example perhaps to others....

I was born in 1984 and Iron Maiden was some of the first music i ever loved (thanks to my brothers). Its been one of the wonders in my life to this day.

I am an avid radio control plane flyer/follower.. I saw a video of Bruce flying R/C foam planes inside arenas as the roadies were setting up for a show.. I thought that was super cool then I found out he had commercial pilots license and a 767 he owns and operates!!

When I first got into Maiden, it was seriously considered the devil's music by some adults. I remember being frightened of the shadows when I bought number of the beast. But I couldn't stop listening... Now look at them, 35 years later.

Patrick Brennan I saw them on the Powerslave tour in Rochester War Memorial in NY.. awesome show!! I have been lucky to see again 30yrs later many bands form the 80s but Maiden unfortunately is not one..

The Boeing 747-400 (actually a 428 variant), great choice of aircraft. It was built in early 2003 and was used mainly by Saudia Airlines, but was loaned to Iron Maiden for their Book Of Souls tour in 2016. Bruce is a Boeing guy, the band also used 2 narrow body Boeing 757s.

That's a beautiful Boeing 747-400, piloted by a very talented vocalist. I'm sure Bruce and the 1st officer had 2 back-up flight crew members for flights that exceeded 10 hours. I admire Bruce for being Iron Maiden's lead vocalist and being a flight crew member of the 747.

I was 8 years old the first time that a maiden cover was "the number of the beast", then my dad bought me the cassette. Thanks to you I love metal,

Amazing! Just saw this video and I'm very impressed with it. We are in it too! The entire Toronto Pearson Aviation group is seen in the photo at 3:14 with myself included. And being a huge iron maiden fan, it's all the more better! Up the Irons!

How can anyone dislike this video? It shows a rock legend who is humble and never arrogant unlike some of the soon to be forgotten, talent less "stars" of today, flying his own band, the greatest heavy metal band of all time, around the world on one of the biggest planes ever built..then he performs mind blowing high energy concerts to 10's of thousand of adoring fans then jumps back in the plane and flies to another country or continent and does it all again for months on end.. damn haters..I FU***NG HATE THEM !!! UP THE IRONS !!!!!!!!!!!!

Being at Download and watching this coming to land a few years back 👌

Iron Maiden was, is and will be the greatest band ever in modern times history... and that ladies and gentlemen, is a fact.

apple seed, Not comparable; AC⚡DC is rock 'n' roll and Iron Maiden is heavy metal. Both are the best bands on Earth...each in their genre, that's for sure. To put it it your words: Iron Maiden > Black Sabbath AC⚡DC > Motörhead

The only plane with “666” I’d get on. The lack of stewardess comments shows the level of class amongst the maiden fans.

Given that the band lyrics go deep into history, folklore and deep emotions, and their music is way complex and heavy for the mainstream media, Iron Maiden listeners are not average people for these days.

I am amazed that I can still remember every single note of every single solo of every single Maiden song ever written. I can’t tell you what I ate for dinner a week ago, but if you played me one bar of a Maiden song I can tell you which track it is on which album. Now that is a fan. Then and AC/DC.

Lucky to have seen Ed Force One parked up through the fence of the Long Stay car park at East Midlands Airport on the morning they played at Donnington. Great show as always.

That’s cool they took Anthrax with them. I wish we got to see more of the interior of the plane.

My grandfather went from flying bombers across the Atlantic to supply the Allies to flying airliners for some 30 years. The biggest plane he flew was the Lockheed L1011 and DC-10 Series 10, but he never flew a 747. He loved flying and everything aviation related, and I think he would have enjoyed this. Also, most people recover from cancer treatment by relaxing in their homes and working on a hobby that makes them happy. Bruce Dickinson gets trained and certified to fly a 747. Finally, there is an issue of either Aviation History or Air & Space magazine (both great reads btw) from a few years ago and in one of the articles there is a photo of the plane they are detailing. In the background is Ed Force One!

this dude is a fucking legend man, hes living the ultimate dream.flying yourself on your own tour from city to city. didnt knew he was a pilot until i read about it in a magazine a while ago. gotta admit i was impressed

Amazing video! I love maiden now in 2022! Bruce, the band the epochness! More so than in 82' for just the music! 40 years later! Look forward to the show!
