this is the first tour they've ever played it, t's been like 35 years since they've even heard it, they probably forgot they wrote it after that long, I herald them for being brave enough to play this live, it's a fan favorite

it's really disappointing that they will not perform this song in Greece..many greek fans were looking forward to listen to this song for years..and just now that their wish was about to come true Iron maiden decided not to include Greece in their tour..really disappointing..

Noticed that alive and that must have been a fail even it's not a bad one. Remember Nicko apologized hitting wrong twice, I guess it was during the Dance of Death tour. Well, two mistakes in tens of thousands of hits - I thinks we can accept those... 😅

You know that you have to thank the Greek concert last year for this additions, yes? Bruce got mad with a fan with a flare, he called him a Greek c@nt and there was backlash in Greece. Then he responded by announcing that they would not include Greece in their tours next year or even ever. And then they added this out of spite because the fans in Greece were asking for it since 1989. It’s poetic justice that a) the song got played because of Greek fandom, even in reverse psychology and b) the band revealed their age when challenged by a taxing song due, again, to their spite. Absolute love it anyway!

@@puckoster Yeah, sure, but Greeks had a far more intense desire to listen to this song, given the origins of Alexander and the historical context. They almost broke encores in Greece to demand Alexander the Great.

Got to admit, it makes me slightly angry that they put Adrian in this position at his age now. Effectively, his soloing is almost perfect, but "maybe" he's not fast enough any more to complete the "entire" intricate little note sequence, during the little Jazz solo here, so he does all of it, except for the final reverse of the note sequence, which would have been performed at 4:24 (but he missed it out here and at the last 2 venues), which he obviously would have been able to do properly up until about 2 years ago.The Adrian that absolutely killed all of the solos of this "most technical" maiden album, "LIVE in all their venues" in 86', would have been able to perform this immaculately if they had simply played it occasionally over the years. We know this because the most difficult tracks for guitars "other than this little jazz solo on Alexander…" are the delicate intro to loneliness of a "long-distance runner"(Most renditions, the Guitarist is not delicate enough with the fingers and each note in the sequence then sounds too distinct) and the entire "Sea of Madness" song and Adrian performed both immaculately live, in 87 and there is evidence of that on KZread. *To make it clear why this is important = All of the tribute bands e.g. Children of the Beast, The Iron Maidens and the Maiden tubers have all struggled with the guitar work on "Somewhere in Time's" tracks, and particularly this little jazz solo on "Alexander," the solos on Caught somewhere in time, intro to loneliness and virtually all of Sea of madness- but because they have pePerformed them so often, they have at least one example, Where they have nailed the performance immaculately and Adrian has not been given that chance *As for "Alexander the great" Whoever has made the decision not to play it over the years, has sold Adrian out here and made him look less capable than he is. Despite the brilliant performance here

The band collectively felt that Alexander wouldn’t work live .. this is more of a gift to the fans who have been crying for Alex to be played. It’s not a personal attack on Adrian lol

He stumbled pretty badly in Ljubljana, but this sounds more like he rearranged the solo rather than got it wrong.

You're right that he's playing the 1st section at a higher pitch, but because the sequence is so beautifully intricate, not replicating the entire sequence of notes, just gives the feeling that he's chasing it, and "almost" getting it, but not quite. Well "at least" he's not actually trying that last reversed sequence, because online "the Iron Maiden's" and "The Maiden Tubers", amongst other aIrtist's trying, have actually" gone for it" and completely fudged it at times. It's funny because Courtney Cox, Adrian's version of the Maiden's, often laughs at herself, because, on occasion, you can see that she has fudged "Sea of Madness" and with the jazz sequence in Alexander, she has sometimes abandoned the attempt to complete the entire sequence of notes, halfway through, when it's clear that she's struggling and a couple of occasions she has completely fudged it and it sounded awkward, but she still laughed it off. The Maiden Tubers, Adrian replica didn't even attempt it in their live show. *Nita Strauss, is well-known for messing up Dave section in Caught Somewhere in Time constantly - she even admits it in interviews, that she can't nail it!
