Awesome playthrough even if it didn't turn out so well in the end. I got the gnome pack and Iron Helm will arrive Tuesday. Ready for a play of my own.

This adds a very cool reply aspect back into Iron helm. The Character/Class system from the Tin games was a great idea and it has a lot of growth potential with the greater options that the full sized game gives you. Now he just has to figure a way of combining the more varied outcomes of the tin games with the deeper push your luck aspect of this one (I really like the fact that your outcome will change based on if you picked the room first or second). Like, this would just about be the ultimate solo RPG experience.

I believe his new game UnderQuest is going to tick off all of those boxes.

Dungeon Deck 2 adds a little more variation with some cards having random tables and some depending on your position on the morality tracker

I just finished watching it. First off, I’ve never commented before, but the game and player’s mats are beautiful, aren’t they? I really enjoy the new character creation system. It’s incredibly interesting and adds a lot to the game. I find it amazing how Jason can build so much variability on top of what already exists without losing balance. Separating aspects of the characters into different choices, giving more agency to players, and adding replayability while maintaining cohesion is brilliant. Great decision. Props to him! I couldn’t help but chuckle at the auspicious orc. It seemed like he had the dash skill instead of a sixth sense, though. I was so pumped with the easy and fast navigation that when you got snake eyes trying to hit the lich for the first time, reality hit me. Poor monks, they always seem like better concepts than what they turn out to be in practice. I have the same problem in TTRPGs. Hahaha. Ah! For the first time, Iron Helm reminded me of One Deck Dungeon, for the tiniest things like the boss waiting for you right after you go down a level, and the fact that if you speed through the game without buffing yourself, you end up having a tough time with the boss. I found it funny. By the way, what do you think about One Deck Dungeon? I also noticed you always go down on the morality track. Is there not much incentive to go up? It seems like going down doesn’t carry a lot of disadvantages (nor advantages). Do you think morality choices should have more impact or carry more stakes? I may be wrong, but I find it a little circumstantial. Even though sometimes it can help to get to the point where you are eligible for help, you have to lose substantial resources. It’s almost a trade, which seems like a low-impact flavor thing. I’m really not set on this and would love to hear more insights about it. Lastly, I wish you a speedy recovery. Take care of your voice and rest. You’ve done plenty of work with all these videos in a short period of time, and you deserve some time to recuperate. Thanks, brother, for the fantastic playthrough!

Absolutely; the game mats are a must for me. I love them. I also completely agree about the character creation system. I’ve only just scratched the surface but I’m so eager and excited to delve deeper! I’m not a massive fan of One Deck Dungeon. It’s a little too “dicey” for me. There’s an insane amount of luck involved and not nearly enough decision making for my liking. I think it’s an ok game though. Morality is the weakest part of Iron Helm’s design imo. It has such low impact on the experience. As you pointed out, it’s rarely ever beneficial to take the moral high ground; it typically screws your over. There are a couple of plot cards that reward you for having a positive morality, but the rewards are underwhelming at best and not worth the trade off. The dungeon deck 2 remedied this to a fair extent. I’ll do some Playthroughs with that dungeon deck soon. I recorded this video a couple weeks ago and just got around to editing it, so my voice is good to go! In fact, many of the recent videos were recorded after this one. I appreciate the well wishes! I have a back catalogue of videos that are waiting to be edited. I filmed several a couple of days ago without my rings on, so you’ll see those in the near future. They were all filmed on the same day. I like to have plenty of videos backlogged in case something comes up and I’m not able to record.

I find randomly generating characters is half the fun. I do the same for Tin Helm.

I've played a "moral flexible dwarf not paladin" 🤣 just a few days ago...in addition to character creation, I've used the dungeon deck 2 and his morale was so low... And suddenly he met an Archangel 🤣 (he would have died if this was his first card, because you get damage, when your morale is too low).... Then, just a few moments before the boss, he decided to drink from a fountain and got poisoned 🤣 good times

Yea I goofed up and forgot to draw the last plot card too. I had a bit of an off day when I recorded this. I was losing my voice and just wasn’t feeling great. It’s all good, though. 🙂
