Ferritin levels almost NEVER get checked in US. Such a shame.

Always best to see an ND. They are likely to recommend ferritin labs with certain symptoms.

Dr. Friedman recommends iron treatment for everyone with a ferritin less than 60 ng/mL. The goal of treatment is to raise ferritin levels to a value between 70 and 90 ng/mL and is usually achieved with oral iron treatment, although as discussed below, a newly available iron patch is a good alternative. Raising ferritin levels to this range may be needed for patients with hypothyroidism to have an optimal response to thyroid hormone treatment. Dr. Friedman’s philosophy is proper ferritin levels are crucial for good hormone health and he advocates attempting to raise them fairly rapidly in those with low levels.

That’s what I have my legs and ache going up stairs and I m short of breath. I feel tired even though I have slept full night. Bloods came back normal a month ago and now these symptoms are here. I don’t feel like the doctors care or have the budget/time to do enough. I had no follow up appointment arrangement from doctor just passed off as if I m fine. Can blood levels be incorrect or a poor reflection of my health? My mother has pernicious anaemia, I am hoping I do not have that. She self injects B12 x 2 times a week as the doctors fail to understand the illness and the requirements of more regular injections not the every 3-4 months they prescribed. I think the NHS is failing us.

I was told I had low iron anemia. I don’t have any symptoms at all and feel well and healthy. There is no way I’m taking massive doses of iron supplements because some doctor suggests it. I will carry on being healthy as I am.
