You're like an old pro, driving that road flawlessly. You encountered locals who you had to overtake on top of a car from mainland UK (the license plate, from what I could make out, indicated that it is not one from Northern Ireland). You didn't flinch where many other tourists (even Irish ones) would. That road and many like it are in appalling condition and I always thought that during the Motorway boom when there was money being wiped on people's arses that they could have repaved many of the National Secondary roads. Most (not all) National Primary roads are in okay to excellent condition but most National Secondary roads are in disrepair, narrow, and windy. There's a road in Kerry (going along the Dingle Peninsula) that even allows a stream to flow horizontally along it (see here: www.google.ie/maps/@52.1022202,-10.4297979,3a,75y,297.35h,76.98t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s5zSxT4BTtZCnHSo5-4NC4A!2e0). Granted, it's a Regional road and in the care of the local authority, but sometimes safety should trump tradition. Some of it is only as wide as a one-way alley! Still, the views along it are spectacular and I hope you got a chance to drive it. I did in 2011 and the views took my breath away. If not, maybe the next time that you're back in Ireland, but have a look at the Street View in the meantime.

Jules Koch C'était une "roturière" Peugeot 308 diesel :) Le moteur était très coupleux et les dépassements étiont donc faclies. Merci encore pour le commentaire, le fait de les répondre me rappelle aussi de bons souvenirs!

The speed limit of 100 km is incredible high, even to high. But it's a beautiful road.

The speed limit is what all speed limits should be -a maximum speed! Too often they feel like a minimum one...

Yeah, that's through! In The Netherlands such a road would have a speed limit of 60 km!

StarmanFR true not through, and yeah the speed limits are insanely high, especially on bóithríns (single-lane tracks with 80km/h speed limits)

If this isn't fast enough change the speed to 2 times as fast much better

Hi, I don't exactly remember it, but Google Maps says it should take you 20 minutes -which looks a little bit optimistic!

Wow, that looks interesting! I didn't have time to drive a lot (I was in Ireland for just one week!), but I liked it so much I think I'll be back next summer -and I'm driving through that stream! It's true that some roads in Ireland are in bad condition, but given the progress the country has made in the last years I think everything will get better sooner or later (in 2005, I remember being told *all* Irish roads were appalling!).

Roads of Europe (verreme) So you can imagine what it was like in 2000 and again in 1995. :D Things have gotten better but when Ireland was one of the richest countries per capita, they wasted a good portion of that money on crap instead of doing what should have been done. Glad you enjoyed your time over here and hope you manage to get back soon! I have always wanted to visit Spain so fingers crossed that it happens in the not-too-distant future. I'd have to bring plenty of sunscreen, though! :)
