Okay, as an irish-filioino i have to defend the food. First of all, you guys were eating the damn things wrong. Maybe next time get an actual native to show you how these and other international foods are eaten. The dishes are all supposed to come with white rice. Preferrably thai jasmine. You don't just scoop it up. Rice is important. Secondly, the dessert you ate is supposedly mixed firt before you munch on it. Hence the name, 'Halo-Halo'. You mix it. If you don't you're just basically eating ice. And clearly enough, the people you have didn't go into this with an open mind. Growing up filipino in West Cork, this is exactlt what i was faced with every time my mom packed my lunch for me. "EWW, THAT LOOKS RANK". This video literally took me back to my childhood and not the pleasant side of it.

The problem with these food tasting productions is that the dishes cannot be considered as authentic cuisine because the ingredients and the preparation used might not be the same as with the original dishes and, therefore, the judgment might be quite unfair. In this case, the lumpia is burnt and, well, lumpy. The kare-kare doesn’t even resemble the Filipino stew dish (it doesn’t even have bagoong on the side. And, pray tell, what are those green veggies floating on that watery sauce?). The pancit has little noodles on it and no sign of the veggies that go well with this recipe, plus kalamansi (a local citrus) should be used instead of the yellow lemon (and what’s that big chunk of meat under the noodles?). The halo-halo should be thoroughly mixed (halo-halo means to mix) before it’s eaten. I wouldn’t be surprised to know that they used fresh milk here instead of the preferred evaporated milk on halo-halo.

I am Irish here. I didn't notice the bad manners of throwing down fork. More men than women do that. Some of us Irish are uncouth by Filipino standards. Here in Ireland, Filipinos love us Irish being down-to-earth and neighbourly. If your unmarried sister falls pregnant and that news got out, your Filipino neighbours show disgust, while Irish neighbours pass no heed and make no judgment. A Filipino woman told me that. She had been here in Ireland for over 15 years and she is hired for houseworks and works in a restaurant. She understands that most Irish elderly people have spice intolerance, because they haven't acquired taste for spicy foods. When my elderly mother fell ill, she surprised us all with a cup of soup for mother and bread slices. Like a nurse, she knew my mother's dietary needs like homemade soup. No spices or salt in soup, given my mother's high blood pressure. My mother always welcome her soup.

I keep watching these videos because I am kind of mesmerized by how rude some of these people are. Throwing down your spoon? Don't travel. Don't. Not acceptable. You are not five. actually, can people please stop saying this. yes that is what it means, but it is already a mix in that it is basically an ice parfait. i am filipino (ilocana - hoy) and i never mix my halo halo. that is up to you. i personally don't like when my ube or leche flan melts into the rest of it, i like to eat the ube and leche flan straight first, and then the rest.

When you do tasting of food of other country. You must know how it should be eaten right. Put a disclaimer that it was not prepared by a native country. There is always difference in taste if foreigner cooked it. That kare kare is not a kare kare the texture and dense of the sauce is way far from filipino cook. Halo Halo means Mix with different flavor and it should mix first you eat. Thats why its called halo halo or mix mix.

The food is just as worse or even worse in the Philippines, as for what I've tasted. And Halo Halo is just a Filipino copy of Bin-su which is 100 times more delicious than your Halo Halo. Also, no one outside Philippines likes JollyBee. So stop promoting it to foreigners as your flagship or whatever. It's basically poor quality and bad food.

The pain in my heart when not everyone liked the halo-halo. I wish i could eat it everyday 🤤. The name means mix-mix because of all the jellies, beans and sometimes sweet corn mixed into at least one kind of ice cream. Can't forget the sweetened condensed milk either. Would have been best if they mixed it first then went ham.

The criticisms aimed at the balding guy wearing a black shirt is not merely because he hates the food. Nobody is insisting that he should praise and love it. Communication relies heavily on our body language and he has exhibited an abhorrent one that made him out to be a narrow-minded and arrogant self-entitled brat. Case in point, he kept rolling his eyes at every dish presented to him even prior to tasting it. There are many ways of getting your opinion across in a CIVILIZED manner. If you don't like a foreign food, you simply just DON'T TOSS YOUR UTENSILS ASIDE and berate it. I'd like to think that such manners are unacceptable in any culture. Simply put, he just generally acted like an ill-mannered jerk. That's what pissed people off. And if you're going to defend that ACTION then take a look in the mirror and ask yourself if such a behavior is truly becoming and acceptable.

Agree with this one. I don't have any qualms about people not like local cuisine (and in the video they don't really like everything and that's okay) but the way he expresses his opinion is disgusting. Never in any culture is it acceptable to throw utensils when you don't like the food. The way he says things are degrading.

They ate the Halo Halo wrong! You're suppose to mix it with the spoon. I own a filipino restaurant at an international airport. Before, almost every curious customer would order Halo Halo but only eat a quarter of the cup served. I made some adjustments and told the chef to mix it before serving; and now the customers leave with the cups empty! It's what I like to see, people leaving feeling satisfied.

I'm thinking it's because of the difference of how filipinos vs all around the world eats. e.g. Filipinos serves fish/most seafood as a whole while most countries would serve it fillet. Filipinos knows the stuff to be done before consuming anything.

You can dislike the food and still be polite and respectful. I don’t understand why you would even hire someone like the guy in the black shirt. Straight up disrespectful the whole time.

A lot of people, especially my fellow Filipinos, are saying the man in the black shirt is disrespectful because he thinks our food is bad. Well, 1) 'respect' is a word that's thrown around lightly. Respect is earned, so we can't just demand it from others (whether for ourselves or for our culture). 2) if he doesn't like our food then so be it; can't force someone to like what they inherently don't. To be honest though, that halo-halo looked a bit wonky. What pisses me off about the guy in the black shirt is his insolent and childish attitude. He encounters food he doesn't like? He throws his fork on the table like an immature brat. That's what gets me. He looks 40 but has the mind of a 4 year old. He lacks any sense of decency and courtesy.
