IRISH MEDICAL STUDENT ANSWERING YOUR QUESTIONS

Answering your questions about graduate medicine. From applying to medicine in Ireland to finding accommodation and managing your time, I'm covering all things GEMs.
Questions and their timestamps:
1:03 Are internships only in hospitals affiliated with UL or is there the option of others like UHG etc?
2:18 Is it hard to keep up with the course material? / Is it difficult to know how much or what to study since it’s a minimally didactic course?
4:22 Are you getting back into KZread??
5:07 How do you know if PBL will work for you before you make your choice?
6:24 Are practical skills labs enjoyable?
7:11 Sitting the GAMSAT in September, I don’t feel prepared at all. Any advice?
9:05 Can you work abroad immediately after finishing the degree or do you have to stay in Ireland to begin with?
10:53 Why did I do it?
11:18 Does the order of preference you choose for Irish medical schools impact your chances of admission?
14:10 Is it hard to find accommodation in Limerick on or off campus?
15:43 What is your experience of UL as a graduate student? Is it easy to make friends and are there many social events? What is the average age on the GEM course/ can Gem students join sports clubs and teams?
17:44 Limerick - I’ve heard it’s the rainiest place in Ireland. Is the weather really depressing? Does it rain all the time?
18:40 For GEMs, what are the average contact hours a week and what are the holidays in a year?
20:42 Is it possible to hold down a job whilst studying?
22:29 Does the university help facilitate getting internships outside of Ireland?

Hi Harry. Great videos. It is important to note though for international students the School of Medicine in UL has a dedicated team who support and advise international students on their journey back to their country of origin if that is where they want to go, help with observerships and electives and residency applications. Hi Helena, thanks for the clarification. Many of my responses tend to lean on my personal experiences so far. I would love to work with the school in the coming year to produce some focused content outlining these services for prospective students. Thanks for watching 😁
