@madmiguelh2o - "Scottish" "The Gypsy Laddie" (Roud, Child 200), also known as "Black Jack Davy" and "The Raggle Taggle Gypsies" among many other titles, is a Border ballad, possibly written about 1720 on the Scottish side of the border. The ballad has often been used and recorded in many different variations in Scotland and England from the 18th century, the United States, Canada from the 19th century, and more recently Ireland from the 1970s" -wikipedia This rendition :))

Love this but actually it is a Child Ballad and was first a Scottish border ballad. It later migrated to everywhere, including England and Ireland. Also the mountains of the USA where it turned into Black Jack Davey and other such names. Thanks for your upload and music. My best, Moppet

I think you're correct. Anyone who researches this song will find that it almost certainly originates in the borders. I'd add one caveat though. Those were the borders between England and Scotland, this song did not have to explicitely migrate to England, the ballads collected by Child were as much border English as border Scots.

It's very very similar to a song by the italian singer and musician Angelo Branduardi, who often gets his inspiration from celtic songs; anyway this time I think the two songs are almost identical. Branduardi's song is titled "Vanità di vanità"... Does anyone know it,or the singer? I wanna know your opinions! :)

@EdwinMarc My grandparents are gypsies from romania and they are very well educated. People shouldnt assume people are less educated on the world just because they choose to live differently. Its amusing how people hate what they don't understand. People assumed the native american's were uneducated as well, when really they just saw the world differently and had different priorities, "good job with civilizing them". - *sarcasm*

It's interesting how song subjects genders get changed This song is "The Gypsy Laddie" / "Black Jack Davy"/"Raggle Taggle Gypsies" Lad. = Laddie = Young boy Lass = Lassie = Young girl ---- The song "House of the Rising Sun" also had gender-subject (of song) changes. So did the original lyrics of the earlist versions of "St. James Infirmary" ( from the 1500's) The Modern lyrics for "Shady Grove" are totally different than the original (1400's/1500's - ballad of adultery & murder)

I've recently expanded my knowledge on Romanian gypsyfolk. traditional gypsies in England though have no relation to those of Europe and the way i see it it's primarily Americanisation that's made them lose their romance...or am I being naïve to think they ever had it?

Arany Zoltán Is that your real name...? Sounds like a name from a fantasy film or a video game..thanks for the beautiful pictures, women at that time knew what decency meant, today's women tries their best to not wear clothes or wear three sizes small and show the most unflattering flabby bits highlighted to the world.

And also told me to keep MY own flabby bits covered up..?! what the heck... man, I DID speak aboyt covering up fabbby bits, that is EXACTLY what I said above..!! you can't understand English, don't comment back..!! Gabriel gamache boucher yes, specially in western countries you should see the way women behave on friday, saturday nights. Even in freeing cold, they wear almost nothing, sluttiness before comnfort and health,... and after drinking they are vomiting in the streets passed out without any underwears, etc... they have no shame at all. Recent news said about a 19 year old British tourist giving blow jobs to 40 or more men within 2 minutes, and she says she is from a good family... if she had done that in India, she would be gang raped and torn to bits..
