We are- a family of four,
Mum- Annie,
Dad-Bruce
Two children Elsie and Betsy
We decided to trade our busy life as home and business owners to chase the dream we’ve harboured for 10years.
How did we get here
After years of saying one day, we finally realised that these opportunities don’t just land in your lap and if we seriously wanted to make a difference to the Earth then we were going to have to stop talking about it and do it!
We sold all our stuff, got rid of the mortgage, sold our camper conversion business and landed in a dream come true. After traveling in our van we settled here in the west of Ireland. A place that has always been special to us. Annie is half Irish and since we met 13 years ago and she took me to meet her family i fell in love with Ireland too.
Now we’ve made this dream a reality there is no stopping us! our plan is to work hard, meet new people and learn new skills that will guide us on our journey of permaculture and creating a way of life that sings to us. One where we aren’t bound to the banks, working every hour and outsourcing all of our needs. A simple way of life, with connection to ourselves, each other, the earth and our community.

It's a Wednesday. A new video. What a treat to help pick up the midweek slump feeling. Hope you are all well. Oh no the poor sheep. You must all be heartbroken. It is never easy to loose a pet.

Sorry to hear about your lovely sheep. The remodel is looking good. I got a lil excited when you said you were going to cook a roast dinner. What a let down when you didnt take us along to see ur cooking skills. Cant wait to see the next attic update.

Great vlog, nice to see Rory, goat climbing frame is amazing, shame about Lewin the sheep. Sheep tend to go very quickly, could be parasite pressure.

Bruce and Annie and family - I happened upon your vlog about two weeks ago, and have been binge watching from the very beginning. I just finished watching this last one - I am so sorry about Luan. I absolutely adore your family interactions. Annie, you are a treasure - I so enjoy your sweet carefree spirit and the way you love with every fiber of your being. Thank you so much for sharing your lives - especially for us older folks who can only wish we had nerve to do what you have done - creating a world for your children that enables them to love creation and care deeply for nature, for the animals and especially for each other. You guys are awesome!

A Wednesday video, what a treat. There’s always a dirge of new videos mid week. Fabulous progress on the attic bedrooms, you’ll soon be at the painting and decorating stage. You and Annie won’t know yourselves when you have a bedroom to yourselves. Condolences for Luan, take comfort that you provided a life lived well xxx

So sorry to hear about your sheep. Always sad when our animals have to leave us. Maybe a sudden recovery will surprise you. The attic is going to be so cosy for the girls. We did ours the same way after replacing the roof and it really holds the heat in.

Well done guys, roof looks great. We about to start insulation as well...what thickness did you end up going with ... 60mm with 30mm overlay? Fair play for sticking with that KZread...don't let the stress get to you although 👍
@OffGridBruce
10 ай бұрын
I went for 50mm between and 50mm ontop of that so same total thickness you are going for. The main thing is keeping the 50mm air gap between the insulation and breathable felt :)
how are you feeling now mate any better you should do one job at a time not telling you what to do with so many jobs on the go it gets you down as they say chin up you got a lovely family you will get there bruce

Feeling good now Toni. Unfortunately my life is always pulling me in all sorts of directions as certain jobs find there way to the top of the priority list. I got some great advice from some subscribers to factor in breaks before I need one. The break from filming really did me good
Where are you Bruce, have you given up ? Regards Craig…

I’m back today :)
Did you need a structural engineer to advise on the alterations? If not how did you know what to remove and where to make the eave partitions etc
@OffGridBruce
7 ай бұрын
Do I didn’t get an engineer. There was a lot of strength missing from the roof. The lower purlins were interrupted with no supports and the upper purlins were not secured properly and had been like that since the 90s. So I have fitted a new ridge beam and secured the purlins and partitions adding strength. I looked up the spans and kept it within those tolerances
Hey! Quick question tho. Do you have connection to electricity or do you run your own acumulator/solars? Or how did you started? Where did you sleep, did you had freezer etc. Please share some details! I would love to buy my own land and be able to do what you do, but I'm not sure if it is possible here in Poland. Thanks and have a good day!
@OffGridBruce

Hi we are currently off grid for heating and we have a well for our water supply. We are off grid for electricity in the yurt with a small solar setup that powers lighting and charges devices etc. the house has a mains connection but I plan on setting up a larger solar system and battery bank. We don’t use a lot of electricity so shouldn’t be too hard to do. We have a wood fired cook stove to install once I have put in the new floor which will mean the only electricity needed will be for my workshop and lights
How do you get electricity if it’s off grid ? Do you have a generator?
@OffGridBruce
7 ай бұрын
The cottage has an on grid electricity connection but the yurt and workshop are off grid. I don’t want to build my off grid setup for the house until we are living in it so I can calculate battery and solar sizes. I do have several solar generators that are great for the areas I have no power
