Revered as a Spartacus, the Tartar made his career in the West as a principal dancer with The Royal Ballet, where he excelled in MacMillan’s ballets. In this interview, he talks passionately about his work as a maître de ballet with the Paris Opera.

Some time ago I was watching old Baryshnikov videos and I ran into an documentary about Mr Mukhamedov, when he joined Royal Ballet. That's was the first time I heard about him (don't know what took me so long 🙂, because I am a ballet admirer). Then I watched his performances and I was amazed by his outstanding athleticism and technique. Truly a wonderful, dedicated artist. Paris is really lucky to have him. P. S. Loved this interview. If the Paris Opera Ballet were to separate the functions of Artistic and Administrator of the Ballet (which they really should), Mukhamedov would be a superb Artistic Director. (He might, though, face some prejudice as he does not yet speak good French - I'm sure he's working on it!). Thank you for this superb in-depth interview with the great Irek Mukhamedov.
He's a force of nature! Such a career and yet so humble and open an generous. Aurélie Dupond was very smart bringing him into the Paris Opera Ballet. They are lucky to have him!

Irek is an incredible human being, he was a great dancer, and not every great dancer can be a good Metre de Ballet, and I think he is. Congrats and all the best.
