    For anyone confused: he has the M81 woodland camo on the kevlar because, when the war was going on, a majority of units that were infantry (in both the USMC and army, were issued woodland pattern stuff, its not a mistake on the content creators part, it’s entirely accurate to the timeline being displayed

    Also a lot of soldiers and Marines were issued woodland-pattern MOPP gear in case Saddam tried to gas them on the way to Baghdad.

    @@Ren-lx8wv I never got Vietnam era equipment. I was an 11B. The equipment was woodland because most of the environments in the world are green not tan. So naturally DoD issued the most common camo pattern to be used. The problem was that there was an equipment shift from Alice to Molle at that time. They hadn’t managed to ramp up the production of the DCU equipment, because they were still in the process of equipping the military with the common pattern. And DCU never truly kicked off in full force through the equipment because ACU was in the process of being fielded and would come online before the equipment shift to DCU. You saw an increase in DCU equipment issued from the RFI from late 2004 to mid 2006. By then, ACU was able to be fielded.

    I always thought it was odd that troops would be issued a molle vest and then use a chest rig or alice rig instead of hooking gear directly to the vest, if anyone wants to explain it to me please do, I've always been curious about that.

  • @personalaccount8914

    @personalaccount8914

    2 ай бұрын

    There are situations where you want one but not the other. For example a vehicle crewman may have a chest rig separate from the armor so that he can be slick and ergonomic wearing his armor in the vehicle and then put the rig on for when he has to dismount. Additionally you may not need all that stuff on you to man a machine gun in a guard tower, might just need the armor. Also, it sucks wearing armor all the time, especially the armor the army and marine corps were using from 2001-now, so if you're in a situation where armor isn't necessary (for example - moving from point A to point B through the mountains and contact is unlikely) you can keep the kit and leave the armor or pack the armor in your ruck.

    My Hummer had no doors and a cloth roof. We sat on Kevlar “blankets”. Eventually bolted fiberglass boards on the back to “protect” the full infantry squad sitting back there in the open air.

    That uniform looks like some kind of hybrid of the DCU and ACU. Also should note that during the initial invasion US soldiers still used the same PASGT helmet as used during the first Gulf War in the early 90's. The MICH helmet shown here didn't start being issued to troops downrange until a couple of years later.
