Iranian Language Family
The Iranian languages or Iranic languages are a branch of the Indo-Iranian languages, which in turn are a branch of the Indo-European language family. The speakers of Iranian languages are known as Iranian peoples. Historical Iranian languages are grouped in three stages: Old Iranian (until 400 BC), Middle Iranian (400 BC - 900 AD), and New Iranian (since 900 AD). Of the Old Iranian languages, the better understood and recorded ones are Old Persian (a language of Achaemenid Iran) and Avestan (the language of the Avesta). Middle Iranian languages included Middle Persian (a language of Sassanid Iran), Parthian, and Bactrian.
As of 2008, there were an estimated 150-200 million native speakers of Iranian languages. Ethnologue estimates that there are 86 Iranian languages, the largest among them being Persian, Pashto and Kurdish dialect continuum.

There are phrases in which I can understand the Azeris, but unfortunately they forgot their language and adopted the Turkish language when the Turks fled from the Mongols and settled in Iran

@Toonimation tajiks and yaghnobis are genetically the same. Yaghnobis preserved their sogdian language, while the rest adopted Persian during samanid empire. That's why we have two names for one people

@Musto Han that theory is unconfirmed, and is heavily criticized. And from the linguistic similarities I've seen, Elamite seems quite more related to proto-indo-Iranian and Sanskrit than it is to Dravidian. Also from a geographical perspective this languistic evolution makes very little sense. And at last, even if the Elamo-Dravidian hypothesis is true, Elamite would still be an Iranian language due to Elam being in the Iranian plateau, and having heavily influenced Old Persian, and thus indirectly the Farsi language.

Dari is not a language. It is the poetic form of Farsi called " Darbari". I'm an afghan Persian and like most Tajiks and Farsivans ( Persians in Afghanistan) we hate it when someone calls our language "Dari".

The Medes called themselves Airyana under the Medes. The Persians called themselves Airyana under the Persians. As time went by, Airyana became Airyan, Airyan became Airan, Airan became Eiran and Eiran became Iran. The iranic people whom migrated to northern Mesopotamia later lost this recognition and was ordered a rename to Kurdistan. When genetics and culture prove them to be Iranians, we have nothing but magnanimity as we invite Kurds, with open arms, with a joyful smile, to our lands, us Iranians, and say welcome home, to the land of the Aryans.

It is IRANIC not Iranian. All language groups are known with an "IC" at the end, like Germanic, Indic, Slavic etc. "Iranian" means anything from the Islamic Republic of Iran. So, pls do not use the INSULTING name of "Iranian" for those large groups of people who live outside Iran but speak IRANIC languages. It is like Germanic (a family of languages. including English, Swedish etc) and German (things relating to one single country of Germany). Or Indic and Indian. It is a wrong and misleading, Western-based misnomer. Do not use it

I speak with a Kurd from Turkey and he is a historian and a history teacher and he also said we 400 million Aryan/Iranic/Iranian people have forgotten ourselves and let religion and language and ethnic groups we belong to rule over us instead of uniting because we are all Aryans/Iranics/Iranians! @Delaram Salmassi Actually it is believed that their language "Zazaki" is a Northwestern Iranian language such as Kurdish but Kurdish and Persian languages are closer to each other. Some historians also believe that Zazaki is very close to the Avestan language. In Turkey, they generally believe that they are one of the subgroups of Kurds. I believe that since all the Iranian people coming from proto-Iranian roots, they are the same and genetic studies show that their genetics didn't change through time :) . I can say that majority of the Kurds and Zazas didn't know their heritage in Turkey. This summer I was talking with a Zaza man and telling the story of the word Zaza. I said that when Arabs occupied the Sassanid Empire they migrated to Eastern Anatolian highlands in order to save their lives, and the others migrated to India. Some historians say also the Zaza people in Turkey have a connection with the royal family of Sassanids. After Byzantines said the Sasa/Zaza to identify them. After that, they had a rural life for a long time. And he asked me, so are we Arabs?... In Turkey, not only Zazas or Kurds but also all people don't know the history. If someone claims he knows the history, it is totally fake. People can lose their identity easily here, maybe Iran should start a program to help Kurds/Zazas learn their identity. It would be beneficial. I love Irn and their people and I am proud of them because the people of ıran are very smart and unfortunately Iran has the highest brain drain in the world. There are many Iranians in silicon valley. It is good that it also produces its weapons etc. I don't love the government as many people and support democracy but I have also some questions in my mind.. If Iran joins the globalization ecole, will it able to continue to produce its weapons or will it buy them from the USA or Russia??? Many years before some engineers who were working for the defense industry (Aselsan) in Turkey were killed. I don't know..

did you know what you called Arabic music/ Dancing once where performing is Sassanian castles? Arabic music as today did not existed by this name before Arab invasion. How People of tribe of Arab could have a structured music? while we had great orchestra as much as 1000 players and performers when they were escaping the plunderers.for god sake we created the structured music, we even invented a Typeografic system to write the notes. Even western music is part of persian Music if you know what Im talking about.
