Iran: West should ‘test the waters’ on nuclear deal with Pezeshkian in power, expert says

FRANCE 24 spoke to Vali Nasr, professor of international affairs and Middle East studies at John Hopkins University. Nasr explained how Iranian reformist Masoud Pezeshkian ended up winning the presidential election that followed the death of hardline president Ebraim Raissi. While Iran's accelerated uranium enrichment is condemned by Western powers, Nasr believes "it's not too late" to "make a deal to stop them where they are". The United States and Europe now "have a better chance of at least testing the waters on a diplomatic front with Pezeshkian".

You had a nuclear deal with Iran and US pulled out the deal unilaterally, France, Britain and rest of the Europeans did not honor the deal either; I wonder how much money FRANCE 24 pays to people like Vali Nasr to say the things they like to hear, as an Iranian I am ashamed of people like Vali Nasr.

Why would Iran need the West while it has the BRICS, Iran should ignore the West and completely concentrate on the BRICS and try hard to show friendship with its neighbours, especially the Gulf states right now the West tactic is to use others to fight their wars cold or hot, Iran should not play that game and should learn to be the fox

Never forget: We had a nuclear deal. Rational actors -- usually in the center or the left -- are often spending valuable time cleaning up the messes of irrational actors -- usually in the right or far-right.

@sunnyday3656 - For anyone else who may be curious, as I was, here's a tiny snippet from an article for some of the larger context: _“Korea Is Facing a Crisis in Political Leadership”:_ - _Stanford Sociologist Gi-Wook Shin Unpacks the Korean Parliamentary Elections_ _The April 10 parliamentary elections in South Korea resulted in a landslide victory for the liberal opposition, dealing a resounding setback to President Yoon Suk Yeol and his ruling conservative People Power Party. While the liberal Democratic Party fell short of achieving a super majority, the outcome reflects pervasive public discontent with Yoon's administration amid economic challenges and political controversies, placing Yoon in a difficult position for the remainder of his three-year term._ _“In a sense, this was a rematch between President Yoon and Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, whom Yoon defeated in the 2022 presidential race by a razor-thin margin, and Lee won in a big way,” explains Stanford sociologist and APARC Director Gi-Wook Shin. “Now the Democratic Party really became Lee’s party.”_

As a Turkish Citizen, I would never want Iran to have nuclear weapons. However from Iran's point of view, I would never ever trust the parties of nuclear deal anymore. Iran came to an agreement for not to obrain nuclear weapons and in return of that sanctions were supposed to be lifted. In the end, Iran doesn't have nuclear weapons, it's surrounded by its enemies and facing with full aggression and sanctions are even heavier. It's like USA wants Iran to strip off ithe defence capacity before they attack the country.
