IQ2 Power Meter: Finally. Unboxing/Install/First Ride Data
Спорт
Finally, after more than two years the IQ2 power meter...now...pedals, are finally here. Well, mostly here anyway. I've got two rides under my belt in this quick first look at the real seemingly final production units. From unboxing to install, weight comparisons and plenty more. Then a ride on TrainerRoad, followed by an outside ride on all sorts of terrain from pavement to gravel.
Looking for the full accuracy sets? You can find them here: dcra.in/IQ2-InitialTest

Hey folks - Just a reminder that in the video I specifically note I'm unclear/fuzzy on exactly how/when IQ2 will ship units to everyone else. And, now 5 months later - that remains the case. I also noted multiple times it wasn't a full review. I generally only do full reviews on final hardware/software, which this was not. Once IQ2 starts shipping to everyone else, I'll circle back on new hardware and go from there. However, I'd be hesitant at this time to put in an order for IQ2 units until they can actually start shipping. Otherwise, it's mostly just more delays (even if those delays are for perfectly valid component delay reasons). Cheers!

Great video. I'm a bit more reassured that I didn't waste my money backing this project on the the day it went live. The weight difference between the left and right pedal is certainly..... interesting!

Seems like he weighted the left power meter pedal without the battery in it. Don't know if with the battery installed it would weight the same as the right "dummy" pedal.
Unbelievable, I am one of the initial KS backers and I resigned myself to never seeing an IQ2 powermeter. So much so I bought the Assioma Duos which are excellent. Only 2 years late but IQ2 may actually deliver which is no mean feat given the number of failed power meter start-ups!

Thanks for the review. Original backer here, I gave up on ever receiving them months ago. If mine ever arrive, they're going right up on E-ba because they're late, heavy, bigger Q factor and only support Look cleats. Other than that, they seem great. Cheers

Q factor actually is same as others. Weight wise theyre right in the middle of the pack. (Lighter than Vector 3's). Watch Shane millers video.
Wow, that looks really good! Impressed and pleased. I will still be waiting a bit for my MB dual sided pedals - but I was concerned that it might be loosely goosey on the first go round. I originally supported this because I was really hoping for a game changer power meter that would be simple enough and cheap enough that they would just start to be standard on a bike like speed and cadence. This is no longer really that, but does appear to prove the concept, where they are using a “printed” (thin film) strain gauge. I think this will also be a much more durable solution than the insertable pods (although not as flexible in usage scenarios). Keep up the testing, sir, as always.
I'm following these for some time now, happy to see them finally delivering a working unit. I like to know if the unit has temperature compensation to help mitigate against temperature drift?
Thanks for the video. And more thanks for all the warnings about the big delay schedule in production. I wonder if people hava started to actually get their pedals. Or if IQ2 started mass producing this product already. It looks like a great idea, but also it's cleat the developers/designers overestimated "a bit" their capacity to craft rgis product. I will wait until it starts to get massproduced to give it a chance, or better, a new review with the final production Pedal, the one that everyone will be getting...hopefully.
Excellent review very informative - looking forward to the MTB version
I've just cancelled my pre-order for these pedals and ordered a set of Assiomas. I think IQ2 guys deserve a lot of credit though. They had their first 'working' prototype on a bike in February 2018, just 3 years ago (as of writing). That might sound like a long time for those waiting for PMs, but given the total redesign of the product and the lost year of 2020 this would be an astonishingly short time for an established brand to bring a new product to market, let alone a brand-new-from-scratch start-up.

You cancelled 4 months ago..? 🤣🤣 How's that worked out... Got your money yet? I know the answer tbh..
Hi DC, have you got a comparison video of different power meters and also an explanation as to which type of power meter you think is best in terms of placement? If not that's definitely something I'd be interested in! Many thanks for another great & in-depth video.
Nice FR305s on the table! ;) I still have mine in the drawer...
fingers crossed for the MTB version I picked. I think Ill get the Assiomas and sell these when I get them.
Hi! I've just looked up t their website and eventually, there will be a dual left and right pedal system for just 299 euros (the single side left or right is on special at 199 euros). I can't wait to read your full analysis of these pedals and for them to be available...
Gotta love data
great news!! waiting the full review, only 200 euros for the both side, amazing !!

200 for one side,isn't it?
I like the fact they have the spd option, but for my road bike I‘ll stick with the favero assioma duo...
Thanks for the video. Any idea how the accuracy would be affected by the use of a 20mm spacer between the crank and the pedal?
Thanks man I will order them now with a lot more trust.
Thanks for the great review DC, always solid information coming from your page! My question is to the reliability of signal transmission when using battery operated power meters. I've struggled and returned Vector 3's (on three occasions) and a Stages Shimano Dura-Ace Power meter, because they keep dropping or spiking or only connecting one side, etc. The Stages issue was exacerbated by the fact that I have a Garmin Fenix 5, which apparently has issues with Stages, and I am aware of the Vector battery caps issues (which didn't solve the issues for me personally). I believe the real issue is battery contact and not the power meters themselves. Have the IQ2 pedals solved the battery contact conundrum, or should I move to a fixed battery (rechargable) arrangement and forgo the frustrations of shaking battery contact altogether?
Seeing two old school Garmin forerunner 205 on the desk amongst the edge 830 🤔
Bit the bullet and ordered the dual version for Euro 299. Shipping to Switzerland, Euro 20. Swiss customs might charge an extra CHF 30 (~8%). I have been holding off on power meters for the last couple of years, but this video finally tipped me over. Delivery is mid-2020, as per their website. Let's hope I don't get a lemon ;-) For comparison, Garmin Vector 3's are at around Euro 700 (excluding shipping and customs). Favero Assioma's are out of production (for now, given the Covid19 situation in Italy, and elsewhere). Some sites are carrying them for Euro 660, but not sure if they will deliver at all.

Hi Ray, any timeline for the full review? Thanks for the great content.
Thank you so much for this review! It helps me a lot to choose which powermeter I should buy without spending too much money. I have one question I couldn‘t find the answer in my research. Are the iQ2 Powermeter pedals compartible with the Germin Watch 255s music?
Finally. It looks promising.
It’s going to be all about 1. Are they are reliable as the assiomas? 2. Are they cheaper than the assiomas? 3. Can you deal with the weight difference?
IQ2 vs. Assioma would be a fantastic comparison
Thanks for the review, look forward to an update. This was enough for me to order regardless./ Yes, half price of cheapest competitor and I use look pedals. I too had an email from iQ2 and this was part of their reply a few days ago: "we are currently producing the Road singles and dual sets and are planning to ship small amounts over the coming weeks." Curious though, do you have an idea what the 4 countersunk holes are in the pedal body?
Great video as always. Production and editing level is really high compare few years ago! You are proper KZreadr now ;-) You have lot of crap on your phone, but that's fine. BTW, I have one question about IQ2 pedals. Do IQ2 pedals boost your iq or cycling iq of your bike? I am looking to see if there is added value which will this PM real smart... :-)

Hi, very nice video!! We want a review comparing these powermeter with Garmin and Favero assioma. Thank you!!
@DC Rainmaker hows the feel of the pedal? They look a bit too plasticy in my eyes.
Thanks Ray
I know this is a video about the power meter, but... damn is that Karoo head unit humongous.. thought for a second you did another "ipad on handlebar" kinda thing
I wonder what the battery drain will be when you let the battery in the pedal🤔 like the first issues at stages in one day from 100% to 0%?
What's the difference between a right pedal power meter and a left pedal power meter?
Thanks for the video. Have you checked this pedals with the polar grit x? It migth be my option... thx!,
So with all the twists and turns, will they be able to maintain the price at 299, or is that going to go up more in line with their competitors?
9:47 crankset spindle moving inside of bottom bracket
I was backing two years ago because I wanted powermeters to go with crankbrothers pedals, so whatever comes will be a dissapointment. I must say i'm not unimpressed, though. (oh and very proud of our local bike infra ;)
It would be good to know how easily serviceable the bearings are. IQ2 won't give an answer on that yet and it's a pretty big issue with pedal-based power meters.
i think the new dual power meter is now available out in market, maybe a new data analysis soon?
Are they going to get my €299 for dual pedals if i ordered today. So cheap compared to others.
I think I've given up on ever receiving my units and if I ever receiver them, I'll probably just sell them. As soon as I return to cycling outside I'm going to pick up some Vectors instead.

Later it became 100%...it's not that easy to give a good estimation on how much charge is left in a non rechargeable battery. Each one have slightly different characteristics (different base voltage) and you just have to look how the voltage drops slightly over time (and it so can take some minutes until the % number is correct). For rechargeable batterys you can test the voltage/charge curve by doing a full discharge and calibrate your percentage based on that, which makes it easier and more accurate. On their website IQ² claims 140 hours of battery, which sounds good...but let's wait and see what the full review of DCR says about battery life.

Hi, love your videos! Have you had any long term experience with the pedals?
@Dcrainmaker

Nope, as noted I would be waiting for final hardware before doing anything long term (or anything called a 'review') . Where we find ourselves now (5 or so months later), is exactly why I do it that way - so that I can ensure whatever it is I'm reviewing is the same hardware/software as consumers are getting. As noted in the video/post, I was concerned about the production aspect of this hardware, and unfortunately, that's what came true.
I'm going to until shimano bring out their dual pwr pedals.
