You are the man we all need to send our Moms to for tech information - you are so thorough and keep complex things simple! Thank you!!
I recently Reset both my iPad and a friend’s iPhone and then restored them from iCloud backups and this solved severe memory problems for both of us. Neither device had enough free space to download and install iOS updates before the reset. The iPad after restoring had about 30% free space and the iPhone over 50%. I’ve no idea what gremlins were hiding on the devices, but nothing else would free up much space.
Love your videos. They are practical and they don't tend to lean on the need for users to buy pricy apps or services. Great work!

Big Congrats on the 100K Subs !!
Thank you! This was very helpful!
Very helpful video. I am a videographer and photographer primarily so it's often pictures and videos taking up space. Until I watched this I wasn't sure how best to manage my storage and keep my important files.
A really good concise review on apple storage 👍 🇬🇧
Great video as usual. Thanks.
Also for system data, I would add Telegram, all videos, photos, and audios are "cached" into the system data. It took me a while but I was able to find where that 40 GB of system data was coming from.

Were you able to reclaim it, and if so, how?
True about the Samsung T7 SSD. I’m looking into these ones for a while to use one with my new MB and iPad Pro. Yes, Samsung manufacturers a lot of parts. Even for Apple. So people, please be kind, keep loving and stay safe!
Thank you very much. With your instructions I was able to clear out over 10 GB on my 32 GB iPad, most of that was in the cache of the New York Times app.
Good video. Appreciate!
Great video. Is there a way to make another cloud backup photos automatically instead of using iCloud? I know I can do it manually.
Thanks for your help & assistance with the iPhone storage 🤔I turned off iCloud as it was costing me money every month $$ I’ve transferred photo from the iPhones to my apple pc & I have a hard drive backup which I f do I regularly. I have gone through the app’s I haven’t used in more than two years as per your suggestion. Many thanks again from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Great video lots of tips. I’d add two things about resetting your device. First is to reset a device using finder or iTunes because that will wipe the operating system, everything else and it will download a clean copy of your OS. Erasing via your phone skips the re installation of OS which can help free up a device. Second is to sign out of iCloud before erasing it to avoid activation lock.
Love your videos, they are very helpful. I have a problem in storage. I am using WhatsApp Business and WhatsApp two apps but storage shows 4 items of whatsapp. Tried to seek support from Apple but unsuccessful.
Hi great video & thank you for making it clearer for me. I have an iPhone 13Pro and have iCloud which I pay for. My iCloud is full as I use my phone for work, so I have a lot of photos and videos to use for work reference. I don’t want to get rid of any photos/videos because I need them. Would you have a suggestion for me please? I believe & heard that I could connect a portable ssd external hard drive to my phone and download & back up my photos and videos - that way freeing up some storage space. Is that possible to do? Many thanks 😊
Just listened to your in-depth iCloud information so I have a question for you. I use Microsoft for Mac are these files saved to iCloud automatically too?
8:17 If click on Photos in the Storage section of Settings, you can ‘Review Personal Videos’ which lets you see what videos are taking up the most space.
I did purchase the t7 shield, as well as an adapter for the iphone, but cannot figure out how to move anything to it. Is there a video on this?
So if I understood correctly (on the subject of photos and videos) as long as you have enough space on iCloud you can virtually have as many photos as you wish? Figuratively, let's say you have a 64gb iPhone but have 70gb worth of photos uploaded over time to iCloud, with the optimized photo setting, is that correct?
ppl need to get the photos and videos out of the gallery if u put them on google photos or icloud i never run outa space even when i had a 64gb phone
Btw does the thing were i pay for more storage works?
So my photos library is always larger. All the correct setting. But never is very small
Muy phone doesn’t seem to give me the option of off-loading or deleting apps. Is there a setting I am missing somewhere? I want to completely make a few of them go away permanently.
Hello. I'd already done most of the things you said but went into WhatApp and deleted a bunch of media. That along saved almost 2 gigs of space. My phone doesn't allow me to delete voices. Thank you!
How do you get your iPhone messages to move to the iCloud instead of taking up space on the phone? I have it turned on for messages to be moved to the iCloud yet messages still take up gigs of space. Don’t want to delete as there are a lot of photos in the messages that I want to keep.
Thanks to your Videos, i update things like this regularly, as i do for my Wifes phone. However i do have an annoying problem with my desktop. my Sonoma is constantly on the hour giving me time reminders Pleeese how do i turn it off.
I paused & performed each one of these tips to some degree
God bless you, you just saved my life
Great video as usual. Is there way to remove photos off your device when you are using iCloud? My phone seems to have them on both the device and in iCloud and it seems you can only delete off both at the same time

The only way I've seen this work is through creating Shared albums. Content uploaded to a shared album can then be deleted from your own camera roll, but would still exist within the shared album. You could try that - you just wouldn't actually 'share' the album with anyone, you'd just use it for yourself.

What I finally did was to disconnect my overfull iPad from iCloud photos, and then say yes when it asks if you want to remove the photos from the device. For some reason that did not free up *all* the storage space accounted to photos, but it cleared enough to be able to run an update. The photos all remain in the cloud and on any devices that are still connected to iCloud photos. It's infuriating that Apple hasn't designed in a smarter default behavior around how many photos it retains locally when your device is getting full. I thought that was the point of iCloud - that you could keep all those photos in the cloud without them having to take up all that space on each device. You would think there would at least be an option for that behaviour, but no - it defaults to filling all available space with photos until it chokes itself, and disconnecting the photos from iCloud is the only fix. (And afterward it will insist on repeatedly notify you to connect the photos to iCloud to save space!)

The problem with iCloud is that with the exception of the backup, all data in iCloud is synced to your device. Ie if you keep it turned on and delete content on your phone it will also delete it on the cloud so it’s not a proper backup service. I haven’t tested your workaround but I expect Apple is nudging you to run out of storage and buy a new iPhone. I really like Google Photos because it gives you the option to delete photos from your device that you have backed up to their cloud service. It’s also easier to download a copy of your data uploaded to Google to a computer if you don’t want to rely on cloud services

@@dlucey123 What you're saying is not 100% correct. Not all content is downloaded to all devices unless you access it. But the default behavior is beyond stupid for low-capacity devices. It downloads way too much for the capacity of the device, and there are no options to fix that other than to disconnect the photos from iCloud altogether. And then for some reason, the device still doesn't release all the photo storage, even after it deletes all the photos. Apparently the only way to reclaim that space is to wipe the device and do a complete restore. The first problem is a terribly designed "feature", the second appears to be an outright bug ... or as you say, planned sabotage on the part of Apple.

All this conversation in this comment thread is very helpful to me. Thank you everyone. I have never used or turned on iCloud photos. I have only just used iCloud Drive. That way I can send my photos from my iPhone to the Files app which is iCloud Drive and then access to organize those photos or videos whether I'm on my windows PC or my 2021 MacBook Pro, which I am still learning, as never had a Mac until now. I am just now learning to use the iCloud photos app on my Mac to import from my phone to get photos and videos off my iPhone to then organize on my Mac. I'll have to search Proper Honest Tech as I think he has other helpful videos on using iCloud photos and organizing photos.
To be fair you should really mention to people that backing up photos to iCloud or any other cloud storage is way safer than storing all your photos on a physical device as if the device is lost damaged etc you loose your photos. Great video though
Hi, Samsung T7 does t seem to work with iPhone
Can someone help me. Before i had 5GB storage(default), and my iCloud backup was turned off and also iCloud photos. I was getting emails because my 5gb storage was not full. One day I subscribed for iCloud monthly plan and turn on the backups and iCloud photo and i took all the backups and turned off the iCloud backup and iCloud photos and i canceled the subscription plan. After cancellation i downgraded to 5gb storage same as before but the problem is now its showing full storage, and now I cannot get an email on iphone. Now in order to get mail i have to subscribe every month. Is there any ways i can have that 5gb free space just to send or receive emails? Because i don’t want to upgrade my iCloud backup.
Hi I have an iPhone 📱 7 And the iCloud storage is getting deleted in 4 days please help
Is there a way to download 11k photos from iCloud to a drive without having to select each one individually? I want to “select all” and download, but I don’t see that option. (I want to stop using iCloud) BTW, love your videos. Very informative. Straight to the point. 👍

@@AimlessAllee If you have a Mac/MacBook you can easily transfer all of your Photos to the Mac Photo app that is pre installed. You just need to plug in your phone to the MacBook and open the photos app and the rest will be explained . For Windows you plug your phone in and you can select all photos by selecting the photo’s folder and copy it into your hardrive. I would highly recommend watching Tutorial on KZread too.

If I delete pics and videos from messages from Review Large Attachments, its only deleting them from messages, right? Its not removing them from my phone or iCloud?

It deletes them from your iPhone and iCloud storage.
I can’t delete any storage cause I don’t have any apps my phone has gone useless and plus my storage is still full
What about the new ‘iPad IOS’ section? It takes up around 7 gb and doesn’t change or anything. I have a 32gb iPad and that’s the section im trying to clear up. Is it the same as ‘IOS’?

IOS is the operating system so you can't clear that up or your iPad won't work at all.
Please why is my WhatsApp business app taking more than 24GB of my iPhone storage, I have follow the procedure to erase photo but it’s still the same
Very useful! Just freed up like 2gb on WhatsApp!
My only problem is You tube. 83.16 GB of documents & Data. How did it get there and how do I delete this?

You must have downloaded videos from KZread to your device instead of just viewing them. You need to go into your KZread settings and delete downloaded items that you don't want to keep.
Can you provide thumbnails so I can immediately go to subject matter I am interested in? This way I can avoid the part of the video I already know. Thanks mad much.
@ProperHonestTech

Hi Deborah - KZread don't allow me to include 'thumbnails' - I instead include chapters. They're visible in the player, or in the description, allowing you to do exactly as you mentioned, and skip to the parts you're interested in.
Apple is too STINGY to accommodate any external storage (i.e. Micro SD Card) on their phones. Money Grab.
I truly wonder why you don’t have 1M subs..😂

Personally I don’t use WhatsApp now. Telegram was good, but later suffered from spammers and scammers. Signal is my go to now. iMessage is expensive to sent pictures over, whereas Signal is free and very secure.
