You are a real gem to KZread and have an extremely loveable personality (I love all the facial expressions and eyebrow raising when you're not sure on something!). Awesome video Jason. The way you take the time and effort to find the reason behind the phone not booting up and fix the phone so it can still go out and be used is amazing. When i see a lot of repairs on other channels they just do enough to get a backup and send the phone along with the backup out. If I needed a phone repair you would be the first person I would send my phone to because sending it to a repair shop that couldn't fix it you wold still get charged for them looking at it and then have to pay you as well so the point is send it to you get it fixed once and right.

    These capacitors are like water towers throughout the city: they provide local sources of supply current. They are distributed all over to provide local reservoirs of energy in spite of the overall supply coming from “far away” like from a water plant.

    Hello, could you explain to me the fact of putting the red probe on ground in diode mode to detect a short circuit? THANKS

  • @ststele

    @ststele

    6 ай бұрын

    I'm using diode mode measurements instead of resistance for tracking down shorts. It gives a very quick, specific reading that can be compared to known good boards. It's just showing the voltage drop across the test points. You get a reading in either direction but when checking data provided by other techs, they are always putting their anode probe on ground! The known good diode mode readings are listed on board views that have data and to check against those readings, it's necessary to use reverse bias. So I guess the real answer is - it's because that's what everybody else is doing. LOL :-)

    Yes, we wind up bringing in quite a few Android phones. I think many Android users are more conscious about their data and often even manage it themselves though - such as manually transferring files to a local file server or otherwise just managing their own backups! With Apple, I believe a lot of people just assume it's being backed up because they've signed into iCloud. Unfortunately there are some settings that have to be manually enabled for that to happen! Also, tons of these Apple recoveries have only the 5GB free iCloud plan and don't fully realize it's not backing up their 50k photos.

    I love watching but how come Jason never mentions the value of any capacitor? Do Apple only use one value for everything or something like that?

    Thank you! :-) For VCC_MAIN caps I hardly ever check the values anymore. They're 6.4v caps and are usually 2.2uF~15uF. Every cap I installed in the last few videos would be 2.2uF though. I will mention the value of notable caps like on backlight output where the rating is quite different though. Although it may be interesting to find out how long a 6.4v cap could live on a 20v line.. hehe

    Incorrect! They put the caps on there to cause failures. The more caps, the better chance of failure. 😀

    This is one that union repair used to sell but they don’t anymore. It’s just a normal usb current meter but has a visible graph is all. Surely there’s a similar model for sale online! I haven’t checked yet though.

    I noticed most of the time Chinese caps are getting bad. Of course made in China. Lots of electronics are failing because of those tiny capacitors. I wonder when this caps war is going to end? I mean, laptops, ipads, mac, smartphones. etc etc.

    My hair grows so fast that it’s hard to keep up with! It doesn’t grow down though. More so up and out - gets big and poofy.

    Nice job Jason, yes I'm a spanking long time subscriber. I cannot believe that the world of wokism is infiltrating into phone repairs. These people(?) really need to get a life and grow up.

    Hello, I have a question. what could be the problem if my iPhone 7 is showing an ACTIVATION ERROR message upon setting up the phone? is it still worth it to have the phone repaired? how much would it cost for the repair?

  • @ststele

    This is likely a problem with the baseband CPU. Unfortunately it can be an ugly repair and with the age of the device isn't cost effective for repair. Sorry to hear about the trouble!

    hy does no one take a backup of the mobile phone? I wonder. Ending the sd card option was a terribly stupid idea! If the mobile phone is destroyed, you have photos on the sd card if the mobile phone had an sd card

    I bet 99% of people that pay for data recovery will never pay for data recovery again! I mean, they keep it backed up after that! Not just because of the cost involved but having gone through the fear of almost losing everything.
