“Defense wins championships” is a football term anyway. Go check Kenpom and look at all past champions. Only like 4 or 5 of them had better defense than offense. Offense wins in college basketball because these kids just aren’t skilled enough to score consistently. That’s why most games are in the 60s and 70s. Anyway, you’re right. Good offense beats good defense.

I agree with Illinois winning. There were eight Big 12 teams in the Tourney, and only HOU and Iowa St made it to the sweet sixteen. And HOU needed OT against Texas A&M. And Iowa St struggled mightily against WSU. I think Big 12 was overrated.

ISU easily beat WSU in the 2nd half. A team is allowed a half a game to not be at their best, aren't they?? ...and they were still tied at halftime to WSU team who beat Arizona twice and is the tallest team in the NCAA. The Big 12 was the best conference because teams 4-10 could beat anyone on a given night. Big 10 was a huge drop off after Illinois. The only teams the adv metrics suggested would make a run were ISU, Houston, and Baylor. Only Baylor didn't make sweet 16 and would have, had they even shot close to their season average in free throws made. (missed 3 frontends of one-and-ones down the stretch).

Domask is IL second MVP, not Hawkins. Hawkins is a little overrated, actually imo. I hope Underwood plays Dain Dainja, they'll need him to keep advancing, he is a very underrated player; not sure what's wrong with Underwood on that.

Hawkins is legit as hell. Great 3pt shooter, shot blocker, help side defender, and can switch onto guards. You’re looking too far into box score stats. Hawkins is a disruptor on both ends and is a matchup nightmare for every team.

Did you not research that for the first part of your video when you broke down how each team got there? Because you did do that sort of research for Illinois.

It's pronounced Dome ASK, with emphasis on the second syllable, and he and Coleman Hawkins are the team's second-best player. Domask and Hawkins score efficiently, (after the Dukuesn game Illinois ranked as the Number One offensive efficiency team in the nation) but neither player is the least bit selfish. (Shannon told Domask he was gonna fight him if he didn't start shooting the rock in the team's first round game; otherwise Domask wouldn't have made it to double digits in scoring for his triple double!) Domask went off for over 30 against Ohio State in December and has come close to that total a time or two since, but he won't go there against Iowa State's great defense. Both those guys are good three-point shooters, however and good defenders, good rebounders and terrific passers. Illinois will have the best two players on the court against Iowa State, it just isn't certain the name of the team's second-best player. It will depend on game plans and circumstances who gets the most shots after Shannon. Iowa State is obviously good enough to win, the top D in the nation guarantees a good game, but "try hard" teams seldom beat teams with several all around ballers this time of year. So I took the Illini in this. Your analysis sounds about right, a double-digit win is likely.

I don't like this take at all. Iowa State has played extremely well in recent games on the road. Illinois also plays a very fast pace which creates even more chaos and more chances for Iowa State to get turnovers

Illinois typically wins close games late by locking down defensively. You haven't watched enough games. Shannon will turn off Iowa State's best scorer's lights and shut off the water in the last five minutes if it is close. TJ routinely does this even after driving hard to the hoop and guarding the opposite best player all game long! It's fun to watch.
