The focus and concentration these guys have to have is incredible. They are going so fast they don’t have time to ‘think’ , it’s like a 200 mph meditation

I’ve ridden around the Island, and the key to the whole circuit is knowledge. You need years of practice to know exactly where you are and what the race line is at all times. You’re going so bloody fast that if you forget for a moment where you are, then you’ll be on the wrong line for the next corner or bend, and then you’re fucked. It takes seconds to get it wrong and unless you’re really, really good and can recover just as quickly, you’re in deep trouble because if you get it wrong in one bend then you’re hopelessly out of line for the next one which on the Island is only a few seconds away, and that can kill you. I was there in about 1998 with my mate Paul who got it wrong and crashed at some ridiculous speed. Incredibly he survived, albeit he nearly lost his left arm, but just about the only salvageable part from his CBR600 was the filler cap. We bought the rest home in carrier bags. We got the filler cap back and had it mounted on a wooden plaque for him as a momento, along with the external steel frame that he wore for some 6 months to save his arm. In 2002 the guy who used to service my motorcycle breakdown trucks died in the Classic TT when his Aermacchi hit some oil, I still remember getting the news the following morning. RIP Eddie Byers. Unless you’ve ridden the Island, or even been there to see it, you honestly cannot comprehend just how dangerous it is. I can’t stress that enough. It still gibes me the willies watching it each year.

@@JJ62 True enough and that is why some riders actually walk the full circuit or road so as to get an angle on all that you say.

Any news about Patrick Hoff? He came off at School House(?) corner - the left hand bend before Ramsey. He was reported to be ok, but I have not seen a statement from him. 😬

*Update on Patrick Hoff* He is fine, although he will not start in the first sbk race due to a Coccyx sprain. He lost the front wheel in the Schoolhouse corner - 160+ mph - during Wednesday(?) practice.
