You can also use packing tape to have more control of the individual letters

I just got the IOD crockery stamps and was wondering if I could use paint instead of ink. I do plan on using both but with the paint I also kind of like the "unfinished" look. The brayer advice is fabulous, I was thinking mini paint roller which would probably absorb too much of the paint. Thanks so much for your tutorial!!
