    Some of these singleplayer games require you to have internet, otherwise you won't be able to play, it's just so that they can show advertisements and for data collection.

    The sleeziest I've seen are microtransaction games which build up a story, then increase the difficulty at the end. You can play through almost all the game without having to spend any real money, though it would save you a bit of grinding if you did. Then you near the end, and really want to see how the story finishes... and suddenly you're looking at weeks-long grinding efforts to advance the game a even a little bit further. By that point the player is too emotionally tied in to quit - they want to see how it ends, even if it means paying.

    99% of games on the play store that are free are just cash/ad grabs. Nothing original or good. You only really get good games if you pay.

    I wonder if the reuse of bot names is actually smart, not lazy. Imagine someone seeing the bot names that are copied across the dev's games and thinks that they are other actual players and there is a community around the game. Maybe there is someone convinced that they and Kolibro MATE are actually sort of buddies because the bot has done some stuff to their benefit in various matches they have played.

The way they made money off of this game was very interesting and VERY scummy. I should of known ever since they started to get money hungry. Here's a video for those who don't know. Something like 10 years later I tried to play it again and, to my surprise, it still worked, and seemed more alive than ever. It took my dumbass 4+ hours of winning against bots with the same strat over and over to realize no actual multiplayer was taking place. It gave a sudden feeling of shame and frustration, followed by utter loneliness and nostalgia. Man I really miss that game.

    My first exposure to this was “Tetris Friends.” I wondered why the hell there was a “pause” function in Tetris Battle Royale where you’re up against several other players all competing to see who can clear the most lines in 2 minutes. And so I left a game on pause all day on accident because my parents asked me to do some chores. And when I came back, it was still literally the same people. The game hadn’t timed out at all when in theory with a real live game it certainly shouldn’t ended after 2 minutes regardless of if I truly participated or not. I guess having bots did give me some motivation to be as fast as possible because I wanted to be #1. But there was no real sense of competition after that unless I intentionally did a private battle with someone I personally knew and could confirm they were in fact not a bot.

  • @jerrytu0916

    @jerrytu0916

    2 жыл бұрын

    Since you don't need to interact with other players in Tetris (Nothing you do will affect their ability to clear lines; at least not in this mode), Tetris Friends will just put you against 5 other players' replay. It's a good compromise between having to wait for players in your skill level to start a game and just outright using bots that were programmed to consistently clear X lines per minute, but they should have been more upfront with that. (Not that it matters anymore, Tetris Friends have been shut down for a long time now.)

    I remember playing .io games when I was like 10, and one day I noticed in diep.io that all the "players" I went up against were always about the same level as me, and rarely got any better than I did, keeping me in at worst 5th place while none of them improved. Eventually I realized that all the usernames were repeatable, and I was always versing the same people while I changed my name just about every time I played. At that point it was clear that I was playing a fake multiplayer game, and I told all my friends about it and they very quickly caught on as well. We kinda stopped playing most .io games together because we wanted actual challenge against real players, and now we play just play wormate because it has actual servers. Looking at your video now, years after that whole predicament, I'm glad to see others made the connection as well. Now I know I'm not the only one out there!

    I commonly don't play mobile games, less multiplayer mobile games, but I remember playing Paper.io, I think, and when I loose I could get another life if I watch an ad... "how weird", I thought... "why nothing changes during the minute I need to spend watching this ad?... Is just like the other players are waiting for me..." Then it hit me.

    A lot of games from the early 90s (before Internet gaming took off) do that with their multiplayer. It's been a while, but I think the original Warcraft 2 and Master of Orion 2 worked that way. ...and it makes sense if everyone is either in the same room or you know the person on the other end of the dial-up connection. They're not going to be your friend much longer if they don't learn to use pause responsibly.

    @@VivekYadav-ds8oz While there might not be evidence that microwaves cause cancer, there is evidence that direct microwave exposure causes skin burn. "Microwave damage can manifest with a delay; pain or signs of skin damage can show some time after microwave exposure." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microwave_burn". It's probably not that strong in this case because the microwave is not fully open, but the risk is still there, especially when you wait in front of the microwave for an extended period of time. If you can measure the intensity of the microwave leakage sources, you can calculate the safe distance you have to keep from the microwave with the help of the inverse square law, so you have a bubble of "danger" you can safely avoid stepping into.
