It's not a pyramid scheme, since the early adopters lose value when more people enter. A pyramid-scheme would reward early adopters when more people enter.

Can this be done without using Plivo? Just storing the invite number on Firestore? and when someone logs in verify that number like you verified the initial user?

Clubhouse is only popular because of fomo. Once it goes public and anyone can sign in, people will lose interest and the app will be filled with trolls

You forgot the part were you grab all of the users contacts before you let them invite.

Just use firebaseui (npm i -S firebaseui) for phone number signin. For sending invite codes, email is so much easier.

Doesn't this approach of using the input to check whether or not the phone/email was invited make your current users prone to phishing? A bot could try random numbers or random emails to match against real users and this could lead to phishing. I'd say a better approach is to avoid this altogether, just make the current users share a link with their friends and with this unique link the invited people get to create an account.

I do like this approach as well, still is effective to a certain extent. Someone can just post the link or have it in their bio or something

your cloud function should be idempotent function. You can end up sending multiple "You are cool kid" messages

That is such a Bullshit Concept. Most of the Apps / Services that do ship with this concept dont make it. It is mostly with those who only ship IOS first. I think they do fail often because they dont care about the user too much, or focus on creating a great experience for all Users, they just care about that it looks good on their pretentious and overprices "newest I-Phone". That is where their priority lies, and that is why that concept is BS.

I don't agree with the invite concept, but IOS first using Swift is the way to go as an independent developer. I've been trying to tell this to the Flutter fanboys all the time. All the money is made on IOS, better to make a really nice native IOS app, then port it to Kotlin if it's successful. Why do you think some of the most high quality apps never even get ported to Android? It's not even worth the developers time if it's not a free app. No one spends money on the Play store, look up the stats.
