Investing Lessons From Darwin | What I Learned About Investing From Darwin w/ Kyle Grieve (TIP597)

Kyle shares the lessons he learned from reading What I Learned About Investing From Darwin by Pulak Prasad. The book is authored by Pulak Prasad, an investor out of India who helps run Nalanda Capital. From 2007 to 2022, they compounded their capital at 19% per annum, turning 1 rupee into 13.8 rupees during that time sample! But more important than their track record is the unique ways they run their fund.
The book illuminates 3 key principles that Nalanda uses for its investing framework:
1. Avoid big risks.
2. Buy high-quality at a fair price.
3. Don’t be lazy - be very lazy.
To help readers understand why he invests this way, he dives deep into many of Darwin’s principles to help you understand their potential power in investing.

“From 2007 to 2022 turning 1 rupee into 13.8 rupees”. Same time Indian currency halved to USD and additionally the Fund lost 1/3 in 2022-2023. So $1 turned into $4.6. 3x less than and advertised and less than $4.8 S&P500TR. Sadly, again, the broad market is almost impossible to beat in the long run.

My portfolio is inspired by Chris Mayer as well. What is the fifth stock you mentionned ? Aritsia ? Orritsa ? How do you spell it ? I can't find it... You also said you hold Thermal Energy International ? Is it TSXV:TMG ? I'm confused because it looks fundamentally awful... Low margins, low Interest Coverage Ratio, inconsistent sales and profits (mostly negative). Why would you buy this ? Thank you for your answer.

Guys, you may be wonderful investors, but particular tips or even your general investing thoughts are not helpful unless we have a basis as to whether you've actually been successful over the years to ascertain if I should actually follow your suggestions vs just follow the Grey hairs and what they've said.

Sorry but I'm 45 minutes in and you have talked about nothing related to actual companies. I know what analysts look for. I'm not going to waste another hour to listen to common sense and things that anyone who has been in the market more than a week would already know. TL;DR buy an ETF like SPY, MOAT, or SPGP and stop wasting time on idiotic quotes with zero context and no rational reason to quote it. Me unsubscribing is Natural Selection due to limited resources. Did you learn anything from my quote?

" turning 1 rupee into 13.8 rupees " - Pulak should have invested more as that's only a 12.8 rupee profit. ;-) Imagine if he invested more

Kyle you need to improve at not sounding like you're reading. I can have AI do that for me these days. Really makes the content uninteresting.
