I lived few years in Kazakhstan and visited Uzbekistan. I am really impress by the rapidity of the changes of the country. I also invested in Tashkent Stock Exchange. It is always rewarding as investor to put your money in a country which make the proper economic reforms. Thank you for the great interview

Interesting that a country with such powerful reserves and low external debt still has a very weak currency, contrary to what The Austrians would have us believe.

I own some UZ shares from 2008 already. To be fair, I hardly liquidated most of the investments at -90% prices over a long time. Now I still own only Ipotekas bank which will be taken over by OTP Hungary. I just be so sure about the opportunity... I know its cheap etc.... Anyway till there is flood of liquidty all will be great but when the tide..as Warren Buffett Says

Good Day, Your videos are great and I recently joined your private list. Could you kindly elaborate on how as a Canadian I can open a brokerage account in Uzbekistan. I don't have much in the way of funds so checking the ACF site the minimum requirement was $10,000 USD with what seems like $1000 monthly contributions afterwards for non US residents. I can swing the down-payment in a year but not $1000 a month.

Mehmet Ata good point on some stocks that are very illiquid. But the bigger names are quite liquid. The cement company that was given as an example doesn’t really have liquidity issues.

@@TheWanderingInvestor I myself have traded in SE Asian equities directly since 1998. My second largest position is a consumer goods company in Indonesia which except for myself is not owned by any other foreigner. You can see the shareholder ownership profile in the annual reports. It is almost like investing in private equity with the family and friends of the principals of the company owning over 80% of stock. Daily trading in this counter is ALWAYS less than US$ 3000 (!). Why may anyone be interested in this counter? Well, because the dividend payout has gone up over 10 fold in Indonesia Rupiah terms or 6.4 times in US$. This kind of dividend growth is not uncommon in Indonesian companies. The company has also gone up over 25 times since I purchased my position in the mid 2000s. I smell that one can do this with the Uzbek cement company mentioned in the video clip. Am curious, and I will research this in future in Uzbekistan and other former CIS nations, for similar leading market position companies in the consumer goods & financial services sector. My record was mostly poor in mining sectors especially PM stocks, energy, utilities. Almost all my losses were in investments in developed economies. Any ten bagger or better that I got was in Developing markets. My first investment in a frontier market was in Kazatom listed on the London AIM in US$ a couple of months ago. Am on a slight loss at the moment but I also see this as a long term holding. Hope to do business with you at some point in the future.
