Inverness to London on the Caledonian Sleeper. An overnight journey in the Classic room.

I was up in Scotland to play a flag American Football tournament, so I thought it would be fun to head home using the Caledonian Sleeper. I managed to book one of the "classic" rooms for a reasonable price when you include the generous 1/3 discount that I could claim with my Senior Railcard.
The Mark 5 Caledonian Sleeper stock has been much maligned by reviewers, especially in the early days of their release in 2019. However, I suspect a lot of the complaints were due to faulty water supplies in the fully en-suite "club" rooms. Thankfully, for me, everything in my classic room worked perfectly and I had a very pleasant and restful journey.

Yes, it's great! I've seen a few videos that have been a bit picky, but I loved every minute and slept really well. And I agree the staff were lovely too.

Really interesting video, thank you 😊 I remember loading our family car onto the Motorail wagons at Inverness, then woke up in London fresh and ready for the drive to Portsmouth and on the ferry to Spain. Happy memories of the 90s 🥰

@@JohnnyHooverTravels the old building (which is now Pizza Express) next to Inverness Station was deconstructed, turned 90 degrees and then rebuilt when the second part of the Eastgate Centre and Falcon Square was built as well. Inverness Station area looked very different back then 😀

Good insight into how the Serco Mk5 product is shaping up. A far cry from the Mk1 sleeper cabins with the portable plumbing device stored under the sink I had the joy of experiencing some years ago on a Stirling to Kensington Olympia Motorail service.

Crikey Motorail - that was indeed a long time ago! There's still the old Motorail ramp at Fort William station I believe. This trip will be better now that I understand there is somewhere to get a shower at Euston. Thanks for watching and sharing your memories 👍

You never went to the Caledonian Sleeper waiting lounge located across the road from the Royal Highland Hotel , despite living in Inverness, never been in it myself. Have you noticed the logo of the stag has 5 branches? The three on the left represent Fort William, Inverness and Aberdeen, the two on the right represent Edinburgh and Glasgow

The Inverness lounge does not accept Classic tickets. Only people in Club and Double rooms have access. However, I did walk past and should probably have shown where it is and and said why I had no access. And yes, I knew that about the logo, but then proceeded to forget it whilst making the video! It is indeed a lovely design detail. Hopefully you still enjoyed watching the video despite those shortcomings. I will certainly be returning to Inverness to spend more time in the city and take the chance to explore more of the Highlands, and I hope my video has encouraged others to do the same. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

I actually completely missed that there was a barbers shop at the station, which was a shame because that would have been a good bit of quirky info to add to the narration. Oh, and I must say I laughed this morning when I read your comment, cos I also thought one reading of your comment was "great video, but boy you need a haircut" 😆

Great! I hope you have an excellent trip. Scott on Plans,Trains, Everything just did a video showing that the Aberdeen 1st class lounge now has a shower (but bring your own towel) - that could be handy to freshen up when you leave the train. I appreciate you may have a cabin with a shower, but they will probably be a bit underpowered and cramped compared to a "proper one" at the station. Thanks for watching! 👍

I took the Plymouth train from Aberdeen to London the driver that couple that trains together at Edinburgh didn't do a good job, bashing into us like we were a bunch of coal wagons and probably woke up like 200 people! Maybe doesn't happen all the time. Fun expereience in Club class but if you aren't a deep sleeper, I'd just suggest going during the day if you can.

My experience was completely seamless. I was completely unaware of the the train being joined together as I slept. Yes, it is certainty an "experience" even if you don't sleep well, although I'm pleased to say I slept like a log. I'm doing Penzance to London sleeper next week, so it will be good to compare them. 👍
