I found this channel by chance, you don't know this but I have ideas all the time for new stuff. I am shopping for products that don't exist quite often. I called someone asking for a service one time and they told me it was not invented yet and it's been 10 years and it's still not invented. I have some ideas that will just go crazy and I know one of them 100% everyone will go out and buy right now today, I actually need one myself. I have a couple more ideas that will sell themselves to the right company, simple no-brainers, they are going to kick themselves if they pass this up. I always thought I needed patent search and all the process. This is really eye opening for me, I thumbs up every video so far and let me tell you I'm on a bender right now watching all of these.

Stephen, Andrew: Thank you for creating these videos discussing the types of companies there are, and their difficulty levels. I had a idea for commercial airliners, and I was about to blindly head into something that was very difficult, if I didn't see your videos. My next question to you guys: In a easier industry, Novelty and Gift, I called a company which I didn't have a idea for. We discussed terms, and a bit of sales. Excellent distribution level, a long lasting product, no complaints, and it's even a high ticket item. However, discussing a deal, I was a bit shocked at this. The potential licensee flat-out said that they don't want a royalty rate at all (0%).They have also mentioned that they have received alot of ideas in the past. Do you think that this company is being greedy, because judging from these "past ideas" I have not seen even one of those ideas come to market. They did have interest in seeing ideas, but the deal was so bad, it would be hard to license to this company at all, I'd make no money, and worse, I wouldn't even get to see my idea made. Thank you for teaching us this stuff, I could've been ripped off.

In the InventRight book (one simple idea) and courses, they teach you how to get your marketing materials ready before you make the phone calls to the potential licensee. And the first question you ask on the phone is, "Does your company accept open innovation? If they say "no", then move on.

But I can file another provisional and add them together when the non provisional is filed right? And from the point that I filed the first non provisional I still have the first rights if all the applications are simular. Right? Hence non provisional applications are extremely handy, but I've learned that filing a rushed application is a waste of money and a mistake because it may be invalid and not accepted.

There isn't (to our knowledge). Hey, you guys are awesome. Stephen, I just ordered your book on Amazon a few days ago, 'Sell your Ideas With or Without a Patent' and I'm looking forward to reading it. I have a suggestion for another video...How about elaborating on email dialogue to potential companies for licensing? What to say...what not to say? Length of the email?...how to close a deal?..etc.

Thanks as Always for the GREAT ! Info... Hey Stephen you spoke about making new Video's. I have a question, If I submit an Idea and it's picked up by a Licensee and I get My Idea into Production. Can I Ethically create a knock off or can the agreement include several products under the same agreement to License? I'm not like that but the facts are the facts, If you have a good Idea it's going to get Knocked Off sooner or Later. Or can my manufacture 3 or 4 different versions of the some product. Thanks Jesse! Two Thumbs Up on The Great Info! bd

You're thinking strategically about protection! Which is smart. You would definitely want to work with your licensee - to the extent possible - to work out your approach to dealing with copycats. We know some entrepreneurs who come to market with three or four different versions of the same invention, so they can capture more of the market. Thank you for watching and engaging with us Jesse.

Hi. I am in the UK. I am currently researching how to sell my product, which is very low tech and easy to make, for the education market. I have developed and made working prototypes which I use in my classroom. It is a simple idea based on years of advice and experience that just makes life much easier for teachers and pupils when learning to write -especially those who have difficulty. It could possibly be extended for use in other areas of the curriculum as well. I don't know if it exists already but I can't find it anywhere though I can find elements of it in other products. I would like to ask how easy or difficult the education industry is to sell to. I can imagine my product selling in school resource catalogues-my school orders a lot of resources from these catalogues especially the local authority approved one! My headteacher is very supportive of the idea too. I would like to develop the idea into a teaching tool for use on interactive whiteboards and an electronic version that can be used on tablets or computers. Please could you advise on how best to sell these ideas in principle. I am looking into patenting and am trying to write my own patent though I know this can be very difficult to do. I am so glad I have discovered InventRight as I was just about to meet with a product design company and patent attorney though I don't really have any cash flow (I am a teacher!) but was considering getting a loan to help get me get started. By the way, I have just ordered one of your books-arriving tomorrow by Amazon Prime! Also I am not sure who I can ask to come with me to negotiate a licencing deal with a company-What do you do if you can't find the right person? Many thanks, Monica

Look into a crowd funding campaign. Teachers, educators, administration staff...put your intentions in their arenas without disclosing the product or it's use because discretion is key to simple products...or services. "As seen on TV" may not be a route for you. But many companies have teaching seminars, so... Lots o Luck.

Open innovation contests and challenges are increasingly popular, but companies still don't get what motivates people to create. Instead of prize money, they should offer inventors a piece of the pie - aka royalties. www.inc.com/stephen-key/want-truly-great-ideas-treat-inventors-like-entrepreneurs-not-employees.html
