    The solar tiles that look like slate are fantastic! Even if they stop putting out after 50 years they will still protect the roof!

    To avoid roof collapses, have a VERY steep pitch. Many buildings in heavy snow areas have steep roof pitches. edited to fix typos.

    that's good to know in case it snows and you are around a high pitched roof -- avoid at all cost, unless you want an avalanche to fall on you should you decide to walk under a building with a high pitched roof

    @@utubestalkerdotcom LOL funny. If one is not smart enough to stay away from where the snow falls, they deserve to become a snowman! Look at some of the New England style homes. Snow falls off before it builds up significantly.

    Install snow guards to hold it from falling. A very steep roof should not accumulate much snow to begin with.

    This guy thinks roof caps don’t cost a lot, that’s so not right, especially the copper one. I charge you at least 1500 to 2000 for that.. because the cheap ones are 600-750. If custom.

    Roof sprinklers can also reduce energy costs by cooling the hottest part of the house.

    Solar panels die just like batteries do. Devices powered by built-in panels, have a short life expectancy. Be careful before you by equipment with integrated panels.

    Heated flat roof...stupid idea. In cold climates where temps go -19, which is better? A clean roof that gets cooled to -19 from blowing winds or one thats at +32 degrees, insulated from the colder wind by 10 inches of snow?

  • @craigarnold1212

    @craigarnold1212

    Ай бұрын

    Snow/H2O is not a thermal insulator. While water freezes at 32 degrees Snow is made at much lower temp under high pressure making crystals. Snow can be colder/warmer than the air or whatever is around it. It can absorb moisture from the air or rain drops turning to ice. Two feet of snow followed by rain will take out any flat or semi flat roof as it saturates the snow gaining weight. Add the heat from the building that has warmed the snow to melt enough to plug any drains. A half inch of rain over a 15 foot unsupported span could collapse but 3/4 of an inch will do it. So either someone has to shovel it off or see if the insurance company pays off.
