I'm a Japanese Tokusatsu fan. I know it is difficult for multiple reasons (about license ), I want western audience to know about Ultraman series more. It's a totally underrated franchise. It should be more popular worldwide!

The Man From Krypton there's like 7 seasons out, you can see which ones on the shout factory website. currently they're only releasing seasons of super sentai that have had power rangers adaptations but hopefully they get to stuff like go-busters, toqger and jetman eventually.

The Man From Krypton as for ultraman, you can get DVD's of the older series but not the newer ones. all the new ones are streaming on Crunchyroll though.

Kamen Rider Den-o was fun too, I mean c'mon, see the protagonist play 4-5 personalities simultaneously was pretty cool

You didn't even mention the best part of Tokusatsu: the toys. The Japanese are masters of toycraft and Tokusatsu gets some of the best toys out there, usually from Bandai.

Here's my tokusatsu reccomendation: Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. It's surprisingly dark and it really does something unique with Sailor Moon's first story arc. It's definitely a favorite of mine.And if you end up enjoying PGSM, you should check out the Sailor Moon musicals (AKA Sera Myu). They're not exactly tokusatsu, but they provide a similar experience.

You forgot Garo :'( Garo and Gaim were my first.

what about garo? its also pretty dark with some mature themes but it also kinda gives off transformation sequnces and the effects of the story and character development

when I was like 8, I blindly bought a DVD of garo( can't remember which one) 3 episode in and I thought: " Damn, this sentai is so dark, where the rest of the team tho"

I wouldn't still be here if it weren't for Kamen Rider. Marco, i disagree with a lot of your opinions, but please, keep making videos! Keep spreading the word of this wonderful genre!

I grew up watching Bioman and Fiveman with my lil brother so I knew in an instant that I'm down for a show like this. Me, my brother and aunt would gather every Sat afternoon on the living room and lie down on our set up "camp" made out of cot, pillows and blankets while watching it on a rainy weekend. Oh good old times. 🥰 But wait where I could watch this show?

How can u forget Ryukendo? I mean that was the best tokusatsu I'd ever saw

I'm a huge Tokusatsu fan. When I was 6, back in the late 70's, I watched Ultraman '66 every day on channel 17, a local UHF station here in Philadelphia. I always loved Godzilla. Ultraman: Towards The Future & Power Rangers renewed my interest in the early '90. My favorite Tokusatsu is Japanese Spider-Man. I can't believe with Marvel's MCU success, Japanese Spider-Man hasn't been released on DVD or Blu-Ray. Awesome video & channel.

Nice! As somebody growing up in Massachusetts around that time, we had kaiju movies and dubbed anime - but no live-action toku shows. Until one day I actually found and bought some Ultraman VHS tapes recorded directly off of Japanese TV.

My recommendations would be Sentai: Dekaranger, Abaranger, Dairanger, and Jetman Kamen Rider: Shin, Amazon, Den-O, and Black

I think the true appeal of tokusatsu, specifically Super Sentai, is embracing the silliness and wholesomeness it has. Power Rangers on the other hand, solely embraces coolness which can make some of the concepts of Super Sentai lost in translation and come off as lame.

I grew up with Power Rangers until I realize what super sentai is and then I got addicted to that too and then later on I saw Kamen Riders I always wondered what that was and now I'm addicted to that too I'm trying to get back into Super sentai

As a kid I was obsessed with Ultraman,absolutely obsessed with it. That was my introduction to it. The Medium is like Anime but much older and much wittier,Whittier, self aware at that.

Glad to see RPM getting some love That show was probably one of the most unique power rangers series.

This video inspired me to go back and watch a tokusatsu I remember from when I was young. I still remember many things about it very clearly, it was called Ryukendo. What I remember about it the most was the fact my mom blocked the channel after hearing one of the lackeys referring to the main bad as "Demon Lord".

For anyone that wants to get into Tokusatsu (more specifically Kaman Rider and Super Dental as those are the franchise's I'm most familiar with) I highly recommend Kamen Rider Gaim (for the reasons mentioned in the video) and Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. For me Gokaiger was my first sentai and I mainly watched it just for the in suit scenes we were possibly gonna get for Power Rangers. Thankfully I got so much more then that. For those that don' know Gokaiger is the 35th super sentai season and in my opinion with it' tribute episodes did a good job in making me feel like I didn' need to watch any of the other previous sentai series in order to get what those teams were about. And it also made me interested in some of those older seasons such as Liveman, Hurricanger, Kakuranger and more. But these are subjects for another time. All in all great video in an explanation of what Tokusatsu is.

What about Ryukendo? It was my childhood. You mentioned Tomica Hero and you forget Ryukendo

I've heard about Kamen Rider for several years, but I've only recently gotten into it. And by recently, I mean I started this past week with Kamen Rider Fourze. I am having an absolute blast with it (no pun intended).

I owe Tokusatsu Like Power Rangers, Godzilla, VR Troopers for helping me discover a lot of the things I like today like like Super and Real Robot Mecha and Kaiju movies, I still watch a lot of the Power Rangers series, got into Kamen Rider and am really looking forward to getting into more shows especially ones not known as well in the West!

Gaim was the second full Kamen Rider series I watched/finished recently (After Kiva a few years back), holy shit its so good!

This is still fun to watch in 2020

I randomly started watching Den-O and I love it so I'm hereeeeeee

I'm more of a Power Ranges guy and besides RPM, Lost Galaxy,Time Force and SPD are my favorite seasons. I haven't started watching Sentai or Kamen Rider yet, but this video already gave me some good impressions

I watched Choudenshi Bioman, Dynaman, Spielvan, Shaider, Metalder when I was a kid. Tokusatsu including Super Sentai and Metal Hero were my preferred shows over Transformers, GI Joe, The A-Team ( I'm glad I didn't grow up watching any of those shows) basically anything broadcast on TV in America at the time

I've started watching Kamen rider ex-aid as my first Kamen rider series so should I continue or switch & watch ex-aid later?

I was wondering, any plans to do a review, and/or Toku Sins for the 199 Hero Great Battle movie?

I guess I'm one of said two people, I loved Dragon Knight. It is what has strengthened as well as broadened my love for Tokusatsu. As for the original Japanese Kamen Riders, Super Senti and others, the only reason I haven't watched them is do to not speaking Japanese and not being a super fast reader.

0:37 um you forgot to mention that in 1966, Eji Tsuburaya created the Ultraman franchise with the first installment of being Ultra Q & then later on in that same year Ultraman came out. You can’t just jump ahead of time like that. You gotta acknowledge that Ultraman came out before Kamen Rider & after Gojira.

Is Kamen Rider Amazon an official Kamen Rider season? I only ask because of the drastically different way its shot and the fact the say: "Amazon" To morph instead of : "Henshin" Like most seasons

XD i mainly think of my fav kamen rider ooo was like double but in 3 colors

I watched Gaim thinking this is stupid. Fruit themed armor? Dance battles? Why does everyone say this is a must see Kamen rider....but then something weird happened, it got good, there is a clever story with likeable and hateable characters. With death, betrayal, guilt. It’s not a perfect show but it’s got a lot more than it seems.

all I'm saying is Power Rangers would never exist if not for Super Sentai, HOWEVER Super Sentai was around long before Power Rangers -- IMO calling Super Sentai "Japanese Power Rangers" is wrong, it's like that one episode of Power Rangers Dino Charge that had them watching an episode of Aberangers making it seem like Sentai was created AFTER Power Rangers.

they (the Dino Thunder Rangers) in the show flat out stated "they made TV show about US, in Japan" what point am I missing, I know the intent was as a Joke, but IMO it was more of a slap in the face to Super Sentai

CHASEMARC You said it yourself, it's a joke. It's simply meant to set up the rest of the episode. I doubt the writers were rubbing the hands together while smirking evilly as they wrote it. Try not to get bent out of shape over it, man. Pretty sure whoever wrote the episode was as big of a fan of Super Sentai as you are.

I swear bionicle in some of their themes, and Commercials were inspired by this

Some other recomendations Kamen Rider (1971) Its a actualy quite dark for a kids show Engine​ Sentai Go Onger (2008) A really wacky series with talking car animals with Anime eyes Kamen Rider Black and RX (1987-89) A dark haunting kinda a feel and amazingly catchy OPs Go Go Sentai Bokenger (2006) A great action adventure series that will also help you learn about past teams Ultraman (1966) A throw back too the old school days Godzilla films Kamen Rider Den O (2007) An Upbeat series with a colorful cast Choujuu Sentai Liveman (1988) A dark series with Action,Drama and Friendship Chōjin Sentai Jetman (1991) A beautiful drama with Action,Drama,Romance and Lost Beatyful music and a nice tribute too Gatchaman aka Battle of the Planets Kamen Rider W (2009) A series with Mysterys and Neo Nior feel. This is a great series too watch in a group of friends . Kamen Rider ZO and J (1993-94) Good movies that show what truely is a Kamen Rider. Aswell writen by the same writer of Jetman and also created Garo

Garo was in the original script but I only wanted to focus on a small group of Toku. Garo will be mentioned in a future video.

Power rangers RPM ha got to be one of if not the best power rangers series.

While these are some fun recommendations and obvious this is your list and not mine...I feel like there's kind of a dramatic lack of Ultraman here. Personally, I'd throw Ultraman Nexus (and the 2004 Ultraman: The Next feature film that precedes it) in the same category as Kamen Rider Amazons: way more serialized and less monster-of-the-week, with a much darker and more "realistic" tone, without losing what makes the franchise special. Something aimed more at an adult audience.

This maybe irrelevant to the video but do you think super sentai will ever have a better story than kamen rider now.I feel like after goseiger the stories haven't been that interesting.Sure I still love it but do u think they will ever do something like gaim or is that roo dark?
