Purpose of Class
This class introduces students to the concept of the Internet of Things
Class Notes
The Internet of Things is the idea that items not commonly thought of as computers will be able to record and transmit data in an "Internet Like" fashion.
Items may not use the standard TCP/IP stack to communicate. They may use RFID, NFC, Bluetooth or some other wireless communication technology.
Items will record data using Input devices such as Accelerometers, Thermometers, GPS units or Other ways besides Keyboards and Mice.
Power for devices can come from long lasting batteries that can last for a year or more, or from sources such as a persons body motion.
Information from a device may be sent to another device that is connected to a TCP/IP Network and transmitted to the Internet from there.

Love the idea of powering things by walking! Would naturally make people move more and decrease obesity. Taking a college Intro to Tech for Educator's class and found your video as an augmented resource. Super helpful! I'm not a "tech" person, appreciate the information.

one thing that many people don't realize when they dismiss the internet of things is the other unforeseen benefits they will have. Mainly in crime prevention. It will become a lot easier to find out who dunnit when everything a criminal touches or walks by can detect and record changes. Just like detectives use credit card records and cell phone tower pings to track criminals, they will soon have many other methods to do so.

Hello, everyone I have one question about the IT section. I am an Embedded engineer and working in a company since last year. But during this period I come to know that, IOT development becomes an essential part of today's life. Every company needs embedded as well as IOT engineer. I am totally newbie in the software part. I know embedded c language but I totally aware of the software part. So my question is if I want to develop software then which language I should learn first. In my previous project I was reading sensor values which were fitted in different areas in the farm, and that reading I was sent to the server using MQTT protocol. as I don't know how to do web coding, so what I did I connected one nodemcu to take a decision depending on the sensor values. depending on that condition I was operating motors which were installed on a farm. but after doing this stuff I come to know that this process takes too much time, in order to match condition, so I want to replace those decisions taking responsibility by software. hence I am asking that, in order to get started to develop software which programming language I should learn first. Now suppose I develop software then it will take the decision and I can easily remove nodemcu but when I will shut down my pc then obviously that software also going to close and software also get close. hence decision-taking software must be always online to get data, it means web kind of stuff. now suppose I want to develop web-based software then how to do it? I hope you got my point. Please let me know, from where I should start to learn to code for software. Your any help would be appreciated. Sorry for my bad English. - yadnik

Lot of good info here but... kzread.info/dash/bejne/mpWl1dSngczLm5M.html Just sayin. Because when I Google for "proper pronunciation of ethernet" it points to a poll where someone asks "who the hell would pronounce it with a short e?" and the response is a link back to Eli's videos. Oh yeah, Nike and Fitbit are competitors.

kasii somi Both are important. Pronunciation matters when... ...you are applying for a job or trying to win a contract and your mispronunciation marks you as a newbie in the field. ...when you are TEACHING people and helping to establish a mispronunciation that will saddle them with the same liability. ...when you are trying to learn the technology and the roots of the words involved inform you as to their provenance, the intent of the person who coined the term, and thus a deeper understanding. (Ether: a medium that in the wave theory of light permeates all space and transmits transverse waves) When you have a 5-person team evaluating 100 ~ 200 resumes for a single position you have to cut ruthlessly to narrow down the field. If someone mispronounces a term of art in what is supposed to be their core competency, at least two or three people on that interview team toss the resume. That's it, game over. And that person will NEVER know why they were passed over and thus will be unable to correct the problem. Perhaps these issues are unimportant to you. That's OK. You've probably never been in a position where it mattered too much. But I've been on that interview team and seen people get cut for exactly this reason - consistent mispronunciation of a core term of art. So, while it may seem pedantic to a casual observer, pronunciation matters.
