Great video! Another use for plastic stakes is emergency fire tinder.

I prefer SilPoly tarps though I also have SilNylon ones. The main reason is that the SilNylon can sag a fair bit when it's get wet because nylon is naturally hydrophilic. So while the silicone (or polyurethane) stops the water from getting through to you the nylon still absorbs some of it, causing the sag. You can really tell the quality of the silicone impregnation by how much (little?) It sags. On the other hand polyester is naturally hydrophobic so it barely sags at all. Not to long ago I took delivery of a custom SilPoly square tarp (Borah Gear) and all of my hammock tarps are also SilPoly (Dutchware gear). SilPoly is slowly becoming more popular as it overcomes the "cheap" reputation polyester has but at least in the US you can really only find them made by cottage companies.

It's a monster of a tarp. Every buy a Christmas tree and think it was small on the yard? Then you get it inside and you uave to out a hole in the roof. That's the 4zr when you bring it into a forest

I'm considering DD's bikepacker tarp and inner mesh tent. But at about £70 each it's a little bit pricey! But the inner with any of my tarps would also work. There are so many other options with DD.

There is indeed man. Just one thing to be aware of with DD and all their stuff is designed to fit someone who is about 5.9. Sadly I don't sleep so well in there tents

Alton goods out of Australia make a great 3m tarp. Really love my 7 x 9 ft zpacks dyneema tarp for longer journeys too. You're killing it with this videos you two, keep it up!

Good to know! I do be well chuffed to see folks from Australia commenting on stuff as it's such a closed world and I know it helps fellow folks.

@ 60 years old, my wife is gone. I am selling the Airstream trailer. Glam camping is fatiguing. I bought a tarp. I am learning bushcraft camping.

Do you have experience with nylon tarps stretching/expanding in wet conditions? I have always stayed away because I heard that can be an issue. But as I'm finding out I've been wrong about a few things up to now

Hey Brother, I find they tend to slightly stretch a bit or lose a bit of tensile strength. Only marginally and nothing that a quick tighten on the guylines dont fix
