Introduction to Solid-State Physics
Solid-state physics studies how the large-scale properties of solid materials result from their atomic-scale properties. Solid-state physics deals with the properties of solids, from the atomic level upwards. It is closely linked to materials science (which also explores the chemical and engineering aspects of materials) and to electronic device technology, which has profoundly influenced our way of life. Here we discuss some technological revolutions that have relied on solid-state physics for basic discoveries and inventions.
