Two kinds of parabola (function) •open upward and downward (parts of parabola) • opening of the parabola • vertex - if the parabola is downward automatic your vertex is the highest point of the parabola. - if the parabula is upward automatic you vertex is the lowest points of parabola. • axis of symmetry - it creat a mirror effect. Thank you po sir (Archimedes)

    Done po. Thank you po sir! -Galileo Quadratic function A quadratic function is a second degree polynomial represented as f(x) = ax² + bx + c or y = ax² + bx + c, a≠0 where a, b and c are real numbers. f(x) = y Standard form - f(x) = ax² + bx + c Vertex form - f(x) = a (x - h)² + k Parabola - The graph of a quadratic function. (U-Shaped line) Parts of a Parabola 1. Openings of Parabola 2. Vertex - if the parabola is opening upwards, then the vertex is the lowest point of the parabola, but if the parabola is opening downwards, then the vertex is the highest point of the parabola. 3. Axis of symmetry (y-axis) - divides parabola and creates a mirror effect. 2 different openings of a Parabola *Open upward *Open downward 1. f(x) = 6x - 11 is not a quadratic function but a linear function because this function's degree (highest exponent) of the polynomial (6) is 1. 2. f(x) = 2x² + x - 7 is a quadratic function because the highest exponent here is 2. 3. x 0 1 2 3 4 5 f(x) 1 0 3 10 21 36 1st differences 0 - 1 = -1 3 - 0 = 3 10 - 3 = 7 21 - 10 = 11 36 - 21 = 15 2nd differences 3-(-1) = 4 7 - 3 = 4 11 - 7 = 4 15 - 11 = 4 Since all the 2nd differences are equal, this table of values represents a quadratic function. 4. Example number 4 is not a quadratic function but a linear function because the graph of a linear function is a straight line. 5. Example number 5 is a quadratic function.
