Algebra I on Khan Academy: Algebra is the language through which we describe patterns. Think of it as a shorthand, of sorts. As opposed to having to do something over and over again, algebra gives you a simple way to express that repetitive process. It's also seen as a "gatekeeper" subject. Once you achieve an understanding of algebra, the higher-level math subjects become accessible to you. Without it, it's impossible to move forward. It's used by people with lots of different jobs, like carpentry, engineering, and fashion design. In these tutorials, we'll cover a lot of ground. Some of the topics include linear equations, linear inequalities, linear functions, systems of equations, factoring expressions, quadratic expressions, exponents, functions, and ratios.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

Your videos are very helpful! I honestly don't know why there are so many hate comments on the software. You're explaining everything perfectly and there are people complaining about COLORS. It's not very distracting at all, it just helps separate everything in order. I used to look at Kahn Academy and not like it at all, if im going to be honest. I think it might have just been my annoyance to get the math over with that I didn't actually concentrate on what the videos were actually saying. The only reason you don't understand is because you're rushing or you're not willing to learn (personal experience) But what im trying to say is that your videos helped me so much over the years. My school teaches this a little different. Instead of using a and b for points we use y1 and x1, only the 1s are tiny little 1s by the letter but I don't how to type those. For the slope formula we use y2-y1 over x2-x1. For homework, some of the questions give us two sets of points, for example (5,1) and (3,-7) and we have to use these but it doesn't tell us which set is the ones and which are the twos and I'm not sure how to tell. Can someone help me with this?

It would help if the variable b, in the point-slope formula, y-b=m(x-a) was clarified to infact be the same variable b that is in the slope-intercept formula, y = mx+b. It took me rearranging the formula on my own to figure out that when a, the second point's x value, is zero the formula yeilds y-b=mx, aka the y intercept formula, proving the b is the same. This was very confusing and seemingly ambiguous from the video.

Jayson Grey well here you do not need to find out the values of x and y. U just have to find the equation of a line. Let me give u an example:- suppose I have m=2, y1=3 and x1=4 Then u just have to put the value of them in the equation and u will get 5=2x-y. THAT'S IT! That's the equation of the line. Hope u know the first degree equation ax+by+c=0. Hope this helps!
