Mucociliary clearance is an important part of our respiratory defense mechanism. In this video we introduce a model of motile cilia, the structure responsible for mucus clearance, and the effect of temperature and humidity on mucociliary clearance. This video lays the groundwork for understanding the mechanisms behind airway hydration provided by high-flow therapy using the AIRVO™ (Fisher & Paykel Healthcare).
