Introduction to Momentum, Force, Newton's Second Law, Conservation of Linear Momentum, Physics
This physics video tutorial provides a basic introduction into momentum. It explains how to calculate the average force exerted on object using Newton's 2nd Law of motion. In addition, it explains why the conservation of linear momentum occurs for every collision using newton's laws of motion and action reaction forces. Momentum is the product of mass and velocity. It's a vector quantity that contains both magnitude and direction. Force is defined as the rate of change of momentum per unit time. This video also contains an example problem that asks you to calculate the force exerted by a water hose given the speed of the fluid and the mass flow rate. This video provides all of the equations and formulas needed to solve all of the practice problems presented in this video.

Hi everyone. I just want to ask a question. It's about the example no. 4 (about the hose expelling water at the velocity of 30 m/s). Is there such thing ∆m/∆t ? Mass is constant. If there's a change of mass, therefore ∆m/∆t will be zero. Right?
@endgamez7621
2 жыл бұрын
nah its amount of mass at any interval per second e.g. that hose could fire 15kg of water in 3 seconds, but when being turned off its mass dwindles to 2kg/s

Am an engineering student this is my first year and I refer to his videos for physics1 he teaches better than my professors, someone needs to give this guy a bonus he deserves it😄
The the initial mass of a body is = m1 The mass of the body changes to m2 At time t (the change occurs suddenly, as if m1 - m2 Was dropped on m1 at t ) V2 = m1V1 / m2 According to conservation of Linear momentum m1V1 = m2V2 But according to conservation of kinetic energy ½ m1V^21=½ m2V^22 V2 = V1_/m2 / m2 But velocity cannot be different.. So is one of the principals not applicable in here?
Love you bro ❤❤
What a legend
For question 4 I used p=m.v then with the answer I used f= rate of change of momentum/rate of change of time It gave me the same answer but I'm not sure if I was supposed to use that
Thank you 🙏

for #3 wasn't the formula change in momentum over time=mass times acceleration? but when you answered part a, you didn't put the change in momentum over time even though the time was given in the formula? was this a mistake or does the formula without time also work, I got a different answer.

1. A 0.145-kg baseball is pitched horizontally at 37.0m/s. After it is hit by the bat, it moves at the same speed, but in the opposite direction. a. What was the change in momentum of the ball? send help i literally just multiplied but i feel like there's some secret answer i dont get bec. of the opposite direction part.
@clarencechua4150
2 жыл бұрын
Since the baseball is now moving in the opposite direction, the final momentum of the baseball is (0.145)(-37.0)= -5.365. Change in momentum is final momentum minus initial momentum. The initial momentum is just (0.145)(37.0)= 5.365. so the difference between final and initial momentum would be -10.730.
3:01 why would you divide? I thought the equation was multiplying velocity and mass-
