I wasn't going to follow this crash course, but I'm glad I tried the first one out. It's worth it just for Smooth's voice! At the very least I'll put it on as I fall asleep

I earned my MA in Media Literacy, and I'm really happy to see this on here. For those engaging in Media Literacy for the first time, it's important to remember that literacy involves both reading AND writing (or, in ML's case, interpretation and production). Analyzing how media is created is aided by creating media itself. Once you learn some of the theory behind media, apply it to your own work, and you'll learn a lot more about the media creation process!

This has made me so, so excited. As a teacher of Media Studies I am thrilled that this is being taught. It is super relevant for the course!!

I don't have media studies in any school per say but have learned much of media literacy in the past from you tube and internet otherwise. It will be interesting to see if I learn something new.

It's crazy to think about how much I can understand about this for the sole reason that I was raised with social media since I began my adolescent years. I cannot imagine the level of social consciousness regarding media literacy the generations to come will possess. Anyways, as always, an excellent video!

The advent of mass media in the information age means that media literacy and being critical of information is more important than ever. It's very good to learn about.

What I like about Crash Course is that they present us with so much manageable and actually useful information in only ten minutes or so; something that would usually take days or weeks to learn in school, 'if' we learn it at all.

I’m really excited for this course! As a teenager surrounded by the world of tech and social media, its important for people to understand whats going on underneath the surface, how to navigate media and the downsides of social media and the new internet of things that seems to encompass everyone lately

Damn this is important, so many people have no idea the importance and effects that media has on culture and society

When you said "has led to media literacy education in schools", it reminded me about how my school just made digital literacy (which is similar to media literacy) a required class the year I went there.

This series, of all the Crash Courses, has such a high potential to positively influence people.

This is so funny that this came out today because I’m currently (since 8pm) running an awareness program at my college on media literacy and identifying fake news sources.

I majored in Media Studies for my undergrad and got to write a paper on internet culture (particularly the HP fandom) that I got to present at a communication conference a couple years ago! We had to take a media literacy course for our degree too and got to teach kids at a local elementary school. It’s a super fascinating subject and if you’re looking for a job in that vein I would totally recommend it!!

I’m a third year Commmunications major and I’ve been WAITING for Crash Course to do a series on media theory!!! Im so excited to watch these!

Man, its been years since I last watched a J Smooth video. Shoutouts to this episode's writer. I appreciate the Titanic reference. I thought the blu-ray example was going to be a one off joke but to bring it up again with that quote was well executed.

This is clearly a sign. I spent all day yesterday trying to figure out what I want to do with my life and what I want to study. I fell over Media Studies and started to read about it and trying to find out what subjects I needed for it. And now this video. Yup. I think I might do Media Studies.

Very enlightening! can't wait for the next course. I've been trying to explain to my old man how the media affects people now and then. I just can't find the right intro to put into their mind.. this helps me a lot! Encode and decode thats the word of the day.

Something I like to say related to media is that a Historian's job is to study and make sense of the past, whereas a Journalist's job is to study and make sense of the present- or in other words, to make Future Historians' jobs easier. I hope you cover journalistic ethics and the dangers of doing it irresponsibly in this series.

Reason #42 why I'm a fan of this host: he is one of the rare KZread video hosts who uses the word "comprise" correctly.

This Crash Course series should be watched and carefully studied by all humans alive today. This subject is simply not taught in primary school. The world would be a better place if everyone had more media literacy!
