Introducing Yourself in Russian - Russian Guide Part 16
This lesson is a bit more advanced than previous lessons but reading what other people write is the best way to learn and get examples of how to say things.
I read personal introductions of people from Russian speaking countries.

Hey Tom, your persistence in learning Russian is truly amazing! Glad youtube recommend this channel, a native English learning another language is not a very common sight lol 10:09 Hope this helps: "Я учу (...)" could mean both I'm learning or I'm teaching(...)/I teach (...). Depends on the context. Like, Я учу английский- I'm learning English. Я учу(= преподаю) английскому детей - Я teach English to children. When we say "Я учу_сь/Он учит_ся" the -сь and -ся are ethimologically the "leftovers" of the word "себя". So Я учусь= Я учу себя. So it kinda shows that the one who does the action is the one who speaks. So, if i say "Я учусь на первом курсе магистратуры" it means "I'm studying/ learning at the first year of a master's program/ I'm a first year student of a master'sprogram". But if i say "Я учу (= преподаю) на первом курсе магистратуры" it would mean that I'm teaching first-year students at a master's program.
