    It would be good if with the extra storage and cpu power they could improve the plate solve FOV limit. I’d probably upgrade if that was the case.

    the extra speed IS attractive for EAA, but as someone who does EAA 99% of the time i'm surprised by the statement that we'd welcome more storage. perhaps i'm missing something, but in my experience EAA uses very, very little storage; we're really only saving the stacked image, instead of the astrophotography model of keeping raw frames for post processing. i currently use a 64g microSD in my AA+ with ASI294mc and at the end of a night it's never got more than a few gig on it, if that.

    theres a lot of comments I see about people running out of space with the 32GB model .... probably because they are lazy like me and never clear our their file ... there is certainly been a demand for it ... and I guess they took a leap when changing away from the CPU to increase it ,... lots of live stacking in DSO certainly eats up the space too!

    Simon - I own two ASI Air + ( on 2 different scopes ). I'm in the process of doing a direct Cat5 ethernet set up from the Air ( in my backyard ) to my Home Network. Everything is hard wire throughout the house. Will the image download transfer speed increase on the new 256 Model with the improved processor ? Using a 294MM Pro, I'm unable to image in Bin 1 with my current WiFi setup in Station Mode due to the size of the file - so I image everything in Bin 2. This is the only way the Air + will transfer ( download ) files onto my monitor inside the house. Just curious......thank you again for all the very informative videos.

    I'm just about to start some tests too on mine ... I heard from one of the admins he thinks the WiFI is sttronger like the mini ... we will test that :) so right now the answer is ... not sure ... but CAT5 transfer should be faster

    Great video! (new subscriber) This little box is such a game changer!! Getting ready to order my first ASI Air Plus and have been wondering whether or not it was worth the extra $100. Looks like it is. How about some feedback now that it’s been out a while? Anyone reporting issues with the proprietary chipset? Any unexpected issues?

    no actually the board is a pretty standard approach just using a Rockchip CPU ... the Plus is an improvement on Pro for sure ... actually the biggest issue is that its made astro imaging that much easier and appealing that newcomers jump into the hobby but struggle with some of the basics which means people blame ASIAIR for things that they just lack knowledge about ... that isn't a criticism but people do tend to point fingers at their gear and then later understand why things are not working and thats ok its a learning experience ... I do wish I had a $ for every ticket that says I have faulty gear and then I get an email saying .. Ohh I fixed it !!! LOL :) But thats why we created astroworkz ... to fill in those blanks so people get help with the basics too :)

    Simon - I'm in the process of doing a direct Cat5 ethernet setup to the ASI Air Plus. So I have a few questions hopefully you can answer 1) Do I need to change anything on the WiFi setup ? Like changing to the faster transfer speed of 5G from 2.4G ? Or will all downloaded images now transfer through the Cat5 ? 2) I am imaging with a 294MC Pro in Bin 2 - using Bin 1 in WiFi mode, the images will not download over my home WiFi due to the size. Now that I am converting over to direct connection Cat5 - should I make any changes on the USB3.0 Flash Drive storage ? Should I change over to the internal storage to speed up the processing speed of downloaded images ?

  • @TeamAstroworkz

    @TeamAstroworkz

    eMMC will be a bit faster then USB stick depending on if its a USB 2 or 3 stick - I always use internal then copy files over - nothing to change if you connect via CAT5 - you cannot turn off the WiFi ... just point the app to the IP address of the ASIAIR on the LAN

    I have just purchased the previous version of the plus. 2 cameras the mount and EAF take up all the usb ports. I have no other choice but to use the mini USB slot for extra space. Is the largest size still 64GB? Would love to have a 128 or 256gb SD
