Okay this is now *the* digital camera that I want! Finally a pocketable prime lens large sensor camera that isn't 28mm!
Now, having the GR2 and this version of the GR3 for me makes sense. Nice glimpse video Sam - look forward to seeing more about this one. Peace
This is the best news I have received so far this decade. Thanks for sharing. Jan.
Love to see Sam about of this launch. Shows exactly what Ricoh and the community is all about. This X was a total surprise to me, and is now at the top of my list for future cycling/running/pocket companion!
This really does show how much Ricoh listens to it's fan base. It feels like they did this just for long time users, and not to dominate the market.

@M Tech hahaha true
Very glad to see a 40mm equivalent lens…that is my favorite if i had to choose just one. I’m psyched.
Damn Ricoh, I will never be able to resist this camera.
So cool. Very unique camera and simple. This camera is for the cool guys.
Very interesting and useful ‘snap shot’ of the GR 111x and it’s new lens / focal length with some very nice looking examples. I’m certainly intrigued.
Yes! This is what I've been waiting for!
Aw Yeaaaa, Sam. That's the video I was waiting for 😀
Been following you for a while because I’ve had a couple Ricoh gr’s but wasn’t convinced on the new one until your pictures. Thank you. Also lol at the outro line
Always great informative video! Still trying to learn and get used to the GR III!!
Looks good, can't wait for more in-depth videos. Not sure I could afford it as it costs more than my monthly wage haha but I'll keep looking out for deals.
Been waiting on hearing Sam's thoughts! Stoked for this new cam!
Yes! 40mm is good for streetphotography! Good video Samuel!
This version is so special, this focal length feels like your eyes vision in camera ✌🎉 congrats for the new version. Still want to try the gr iii tho, never used it before 😂👌
Yes! an introduction with Sam. 40mm is such a good choice. GRIII got a lot sexier with this camera.
When is the firmware update coming?
thank you ricoh for doing some banging programing!
I'm preparing a review, but your pleasant review makes me laugh, too! Thank you!
Holy hell yessss! I’ve been asking for this since getting into street photography. I’ve been using the Canon 6D + 40mm pancake lens. I borrowed a ricoh from a friend and really wished they do 40mm! Now to convince the wife. Haha
Sam is perfect for any Ricoh video, great job!
Wow! This was totally unexpected. Great news. I'm having a blast with my GRII.

Put it on rotation and make it last, because it’s the final in a series of awesome imaging devices. The iii’s are spruiked by paid reviewers. They are not in the same league.
This camera with a flip-screen and I would buy it immediately! 😍
Simply irresistible!
Greetings to Hamburg ... Camera seems fine too!
Good work Sam! Excited for this!

Life begins at 40... ...mm ;-)
40mm! Excellent! I currently use a Fujifilm XF10, which is an equivalent of 28mm... I'd trade it in for this 40mm
Finally! Thumbs up Ricoh.
Cool to see you get the feature vid, Samuel. I wondered why Kai got the first vid.
I had this combo in medium format, a Bronica RF645 with 40 and 65mm (28 and 40mm eq) lenses. It was my favourite combo and always wished Ricoh would make a 40, to carry along the 28. I'm ecstatic, and preordered. Oh, would have loved to see some more photos from you.
A very interesting offering from Ricoh, quite complementary to the 28mm. I really like 40mm (very often I crop in just a little bit my X100V pictures) and the program line is great, I wish we could literally "program" program modes and this is a step in that direction.
Cool! Next buy
Oh you got me Ricoh! I was tempted for the GRIII for a long time but 28mm isn't for me... I think I will probably not be able to resist any longer. 😅
The new 40mm lens looks super sharp and is the perfect balance between 35mm and 50mm
Any improvement in focusing speed or video? Looking forward to this! Love my GR3.
Clever move by Ricoh! with all the international social distancing implications nowadays GR users don’t need to get as close to get the shot.
The successor of my Sigma DP2 classic. It even lacks the viewfinder he he. Fortunately there are optical ones. 40mm focal length is super versatile, it takes both landscapes and portraits like a champ.
I think the "x" stands for the system this camera is attacking! An X-E4 + XF 27mm or the X100 series have a huge competitor now!
@mineman7

Can’t comment on the X-E4 and the Ricoh is for sure truly pocketable. However with regards to X100V with a big jacket pocket or small bag I can carry a camera that with an added filter is weather sealed, has a tilt screen, in built flash and a F2 lens.

Oh and I forgot, and the option of an electronic or optical viewfinder
I am Fuji shooter and never used Ricoh but I respect your camera guys and wish Fuji did some similar compact ones as well. For that reason I use and love my Fuji x70, 18mm from 2016 very similar to GR iii but older and not so fast and bad for videos sadly. Love being able to have my camera in pocket or any bad without problems and much bulk. 26mm is so cool, would love to have that too since I was born on 26th June haha ;D my fav number ;)
Damnn i need this ! I will be roaming the streets with this one and my trusty old gr ii
Those firmware updated though! \ o /
I was wondering what shoulder case you are using. Thx
That photo at 3:35 is dope.
Will the software update make that the original GRIII recognize the GT2 Adapter?
Mr Ricoh 😂 We love you Samuel, nevermind the GR3X 🤪
When can I get it? The 28mm was nice but was always too wide for street photography. I’m excited about this and want to get it as a birthday present to myself which is this week!
Very Tempting
Ricoh lllx is going to be a hit!
I am getting it. Despite how 35mm or 28mm focal length is used in documentary or street, I feel like I am more attached to longer lenses such as 50mm or 40mm because I am shy and don’t want to get too close to people. Might be the ultimate digital camera for me for personal photographs.
@NinPossible
Жыл бұрын
And with 40mm, you get a better boke than 28mm right.
Please could you say what case you are using?
Oh cool, I love GR 2 but it is starting to cough. Still hanging on in there and I still love it, even though it has been joined with a X100F and a Leica Q, the Ricoh produces amazing IQ. Will get one of these.
It’s not out yet. I wonder how much would it be?
Yes but big question - have they made the strap holes any bigger? It's an absolute PITA trying to get a decent strap (wrist strap) attached to these things. (I prefer the Peak Design). Of course you can put the standard thin wire things in - but I don't trust those long term.
Hi GRist! Sorry to disturb this thread but, do you know where could i send my ricoh GRII for cleaning the dust in the camera/sensor? And i don't have any garanty anymore, it would have been to easy 😅 (i'm from France, i don't know if it changes anything on the process...) Thank you for your help!
Very happy to see it’s not another 28mm equivalents..
Is the spiny wheel issue fixed though? The only downside about the GRIII
I have a GRiii street. Trying to decide if I sell mine to get this, or buy it and keep both.
I am interested in this camera for waist-up environmental people shots. I would avoid extreme close-ups due to distortion. Looking forward to some samples by reviewers. Thx for your videos, as they are always helpful.
Oh man I wish I had the ability to get this camera so I could go explore alleyways and abandoned buildings. (Have you thought of a macro camera? Or low light) I'll definitely try to get photography collections built up once I can get one. Specifically to show off what this exact camera can do 👍
Samuel if you had to choose between one GR iii or the GR iii x which one would u keep? Having a very hard time choosing between which one to buy this will be my first digital point and shoot
Since Ricoh are listening, let's have a new version of the GXR with M mount, please. And can we have a flash that goes on the side of the next GR, like the old Olympus XA?
I don't need another camera Ricoh but damn you!
are you going to do dual camera now?
Does anyone know when this will get released in the US?
When will it be in stock in France please?
Great how you manage to advert for ricoh and stay honnest in the same time…risky task you managed well
Is it good for video recording?
This was such a good move for Ricoh! Love 40mm. My XE3/27mm combo has been a favorite. I enjoyed the GR3 but sold as I wasn’t in love with wider focal length. This is better.
Does anyone know when this will be available in Canada?? Please and thank you LOL
I don't know what the fuss is all about fixed focal lengths? Or fixed anything! Do we need a certain format to discipline ourselves in becoming a better creator? I get the pocketability since I own an olympus micro 4/3 system. I believe in the freedom to decide whether a scene should be wide/narrow/color/BW. Many options are out there, so the limitations should be my own imaginations, not my gears.
Cant wait to buy this after i break my GR ii. And this camera would replace my fave camera+fov: the canonet ql17 with the 40mm
I wish cameras would allow you to shoot in 4:5 for framing. The RAW file could keep the full sensor size but I find it easier to frame 4:5 images when I can have a preview view of 4:5 on the display.
@dan-le-brun
2 жыл бұрын
I wish cameras would let you add a custom setting for this! 4:5 or 6:7 would be great
Anyone know when this drops? Cause I think I'm ready. Anyone want my griii?
Es una gran noticia y una gran cámara , pero para fotógrafia de calle prefiero 28mm. Gracias por compartir! Saludos!
Loveeeee the 40mm equivalent
I am excited by the 40mm lens announcement. The 28mm FOV is too wide for me. I took the video button and use it to digitally zoom to 35mm with 19mp files. I only use the 28mm FOV when I’m in a crowd such as at a parade or protest march. Two more additions I want but suspect Ricoh will never give me. I want an EVF. The GR is a small camera. Give me a small EVF. You were able to put a flash into the original and II so the must be room for an EVF. Next I’d like some screen articulation. These two additions would make you perfect for me. Mask on Nurse Marty
I love love his camera bag! Anyone knows where to get it?🥺
Where can I buy one? Cannot find online
When Ricoh will make camera with viewfinder?
I have updated the film ware on my GR3 to 1.41 but I can't see any new feature you have mentioned in the video. Any idea what I have been missing? Or, perhaps 1.41 is not the latest version yet?
@Old_Man_Bridge
2 жыл бұрын
1.41 is the latest version but it’s not the new firmware. That’s still to be released.
Thank you very much for all your videos. I have a question... I shoot with a Sony A7RIII camera and a section of lenses. I'm looking at buying in to the Ricoh GRIII sysytem. Which model would you reccommend for street photography... GRIII? Or GRIIIX? I'm finding this to be a tough decision! Keep the great videos coming!

You can safely and confidently use the camera you already have. Why buy a camera that lives collecting dust on the sensor and you have to send it to be cleaned from time to time with the expense and risk that it means. Many of those who present cameras are paid to say nice things. If you want a more compact camera you have more reliable options at Fuji.
That camera is a street beast with 40mm
Does it look exactly the same, apart from the writing on the lens? Would have to get a coloured flash cover cap to differentiate between the two.

It’s slightly thicker. The lens housing is a little deeper.
I had been asking for a GR with 40mm for years on my blog , on the forum everywhere . when Ricoh introduced the GRIII I gave up on it because the GRIII had many let downs compared to the predecessor . The absence of the 4.3 ratio option was a dead end for me as I never shoot in 3.2 with any of my cameras . But now it looks like they are putting the 4.3 option again. so if there is a way to assign function button to back focus , I am back in

It’s a beta product, they panicked because of smart phones and tried too hard. When your old GR dies, you’ll buy this and wish you had’ve listened to your instincts and bought two of the earlier model.
gosh dang it! my 28mm GRIII is toast (dial and image glitching problems) and I bought a used fuji cause the cost to repair was too much. now this. damn. what do I do? Ricoh can you give me a discount?
When can we expect the GR IV?
Hi Samuel, as always, a great, informative video! Has anyone ever told you that at certain moments you look like George Harrison? 😊 Greetings from a Germanophile Mexican fan of yours residing in Canada!
Hi , if your going to choose 1 , which one will you buy for your first camera? Gr3 or gr3x? Just for a daily driver. Thanks for answering.🙏

As a newbie who has been used it for a year, I have GR3 and another 35 lens camera . Most of the time I sticked with GR3 due to snapping with 28mm is much easier. The subjects always are in frame and have more room to edit or crop. The 35-40 in the other hand, it is good but I have to stare at screen for arranging the subjects or they were oftenly off frame when snapped. Check and see which fov you prefer the most, 28mm may be looks too landscape for some users but some like it. The 40 sometime feel too narrow but you might love it. For me 28mm is my daily. Thanks.
Ricoh GRIV when?
👌👌👌
Ricoh I know you’re listening please a optical viewfinder for the next GR.
Ricoh, you must do a telephoto lenses conversation for the iiiX. That way two cameras could cover the 4 best focal length ;) x

Here is my formula: Pray every night at full moon. Only eat yellow tomatoes and stay positive.
Where is the GR IV / IVx, though?
Man now thinking about it they should release a white edition. I know they used to have one
"Sometimes you want to go back, but you can't." I know man...
I think 40mm is perfect, holy damn Ricoh finally listens to its fanbase Now about that OVF.......
